Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Elections

Get back to us when she says the same thing to a business or apartment proposal in her ward, where she has to deal with the fallout from constituents.

She has not shown the same attitude towards relaxing parking minimums, to my knowledge.

Dr. Levinson shared this link on his recent Streets.mn/MinnPost commentary about Dinkytown. If you're already reading this thread, you will find it interesting.

How tall can wood-framed buildings go and still be safe?

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

Well this makes my day! ha ha ha. The reduction in height and floors was a mistake. The original 34 story proposal with the cantilevered crown was a much better design. The new crown actually looks better for the building's shorter height in some ways. But the big problem is there is no clear archi...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

I think it would be good to not clutter up the map with too many "could be" transit lines. There are plenty of fantasy transit lines on this board for that. I think it would be more useful to see this be a map of what we could reasonably expect to be operational in the next 10 years. I ag...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Yes, it is interesting that David thinks NoMi "deserves" a direct connection to the southwest suburbs, while Uptown does not, despite actual geographic proximity. Are the working class neighborhoods in southern Anoka County similarly entitled to a direct LRT connection to jobs in Eagan? An...

Re: Uptown Projects Map

Unfortunately no, that space is currently being used as staging space for a big Met Council sewer project (if that's still going on). The most recent proposal by Bigos never gained any traction and the site is again in limbo. I imagine a new proposal will come forward soon though. Personally, I feel...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

I assume the developer is still proposing at least 1 parking space per unit, and somehow that won't enough for the neighborhood. Looks like the initial proposal called for 48 units with 47 parking spaces, seven of those being tandem stalls (presumably for the seven 2BR units). Also included a car-sh...

Re: Hwy 100

Curious indeed. That extra ramp is completely duplicative, unless I'm missing something too. If the NW corner can be made useful for development, why not eliminate that extra ramp and stick with the standard folded diamond? I wonder if they considered other alternatives for the Mtka Blvd exit, such ...

Suburban World Theater rehab - 3022 Hennepin Ave S

http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/182065071.html The Strib has posted a nice blurb about the vacant Suburban World Theater in Uptown and mentions El Lago in Lyn-Lake. Bonus content: a comment by thatchio I figured that this was topic-worthy, since if there ever is a redevelopment proposal, we'l...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Yes, Whittier is quite diverse. It also has excellent transit coverage. North Minneapolis does not. Um, what? You have a problem with the uber-frequent 5 and 19? Sure, frequency on the 7, 14, and 22 could be better, but not every bus line in south is hi-frequency either. Not to mention the whole th...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Some neighborhood members dug in their heels and threw away all their leverage. I think it's a fairly good development but it could be a lot better if some people had been a bit more reasonable. I believe it! In my short time on a neighborhood board I witnessed people waste all their time and lever...

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Elections

foto - yes, I agree that the particular proposal for TJ's was really terrible, and the location was even worse. I'm glad it was defeated, even though I probably would've been shopping in that TJ's twice/week. Unfortunately, the Councilmember's rationale does matter, and her "we don't do spot re...
