Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark

Off topic now but I wonder what will happen to the building if Macy's does close. I remember a while back that Target was interested, and that would certainly be more of a catalyst than the aging Macy's. Just walked past that over lunch. Wow, there's so much potential for redevelopment along that s...

I know that's how I come across.... sorry! I'd be happy to see one implemented well in MN, then I'll be quiet

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

I was shocked to read how old that Millenium Hotel is... sounds like it was built in 1963!

Re: Robert St Corridor

I'm skeptical that LRT would be needed here any time in the next 30 years... is the Concord Street / Lafayette Freeway / Robert Street area even served with good bus service? Are there any P&Rs in the 52 corridor? I'd love to see LRT as a way to redevelop the Robert Street corridor, especially i...

Re: Multiway Boulevards

Any chance Multi-Way Boulevards could be used for redevelopment of aging 1950s-1980s suburban strips? It seems like many cities have spent major cash to redevelop small areas (Excelsior Blvd, Penn/American, 77th Street etc come to mind). Yet we'll likely have less cash for this intensive type of red...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

Maybe my L5 Streetcar Line could be built to connect the convention center/hotel with the Metrodome area...
http://goo.gl/maps/nJa3i

Some of the other lines, including L4, would also provide connectivity from the Convention Center area.

My gut had an unfortunate meeting with a wrecking ball the few times I ate at Normandy Kitchen. So, good call.

Re: Southwest LRT

It bothers me. Why should we be catering to a sector that's producing less jobs? If there are less construction jobs, maybe those folks can go to school to get into engineering and pre-construction work if there's demand for that. Or anything else. But we need to spend our money on things that we ne...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

Humping would mean pushing the car over the hump at a classification yard. This is where you see a locomotive slowly pushing cars to the top of a hill (hump). Then they are disconnected, then gravity takes them down a hill to couple with the other cars headed to that destination, with the switches h...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

I turned down an offer at Target when they told me the group may be moving from DT to BP in the near future. I've also turned down jobs at two other distant suburban companies. It takes a lot of money to compensate for the added expense and wasted time to commute 5x/week for 30 min or more.

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

Once this economy picks back up, I think its going to take some of these companies by surprise. Once people have more of a choice, they're going to refuse to work at corporate campuses outside the beltway. It's already happening.

Re: Downtown-to-Downtown Rail Capacity Study

It seems the operational benefits of through-running SPUD favor the Short Line, but apparently the MNCR section to BNSF requires hand-thrown switches. Yet I can't imagine using the BNSF tracks without having to back out of SPUD, unless I'm missing something.

Re: 330 South 12th

Anybody want to throw in a rendering of a 40 to 50 level tower on this parcel? Curious to see how it would change the skyline. From my vantage point to the south it looks like it would block Norwest and/or Foshay :o

Re: Gateway Corridor

I know the east siders had some vocal opponents to LRT on street ROW. Sad to hear that option is dismissed. What's the point of freeway-running LRT? Freeways are so hostile to walkable station areas. I think the solution for the next 20-30 years in this area is to have freeway BRT to match the peak-...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System

We know that rapid bus done right would be just as good. But rapid bus done right would cost a lot as well. Unfortunately rapid bus, BRT, and other bus-based systems are promised as "just like rail" but then amenities are cut and it basically turns into a few enhancements of the existing s...

Re: West 7th and Hwy 5

They could be flyunders... really the only new flyover on the map was the exit from westbound 55 to 5. The upside of this plan is that it would open up a lot more space up against the fort currently occupied by ramps from westbound 55 including the chapel "island" inside the loop.

Re: West 7th and Hwy 5

Re the new map (5/55) and other maps, the polygons roughly represent bridges that would be needed, and it also helps people looking at the map for the first time figure what's going on. Re the old map (5/Davern/Shepard) I sort of got ripped when I posed it at Minnescraper. I think people were being ...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

http://goo.gl/maps/VnlLa In my fantasy LRT plans, I've always envisioned a new LRT station on the north side between the entrance and Lindau Lane. This is strategic for a few reasons. First, it would place it right at the skyways between the existing MOA and Phase II. Secondly, it would allow for be...

Re: 330 South 12th

I don't think it's particularly special or significant, but it's more special and significant than surface parking lots and 40 year old parking ramps.
