Re: Episcopal Homes Loring Park
Nice infill that works well with the architecture of the older buildings in the area, and contributes to the character of the neighborhood. They are doing it right with this project. Totally agree John. I am sure that fact also lies in part to the strong neighborhood association that stresses that ...

Re: 10th & Marquette Development
Really mixed feelings about this. I am very happy that this part of town is attracting new development and the remaining Handicraft building will hopefully get some TLC. However, despise the idea of the building attached to the Handicraft Building. along Marquette being torn down and some of the las...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
Are they still going ahead with the residential building directly across from the jail? It's weird, in recent posts/images regarding the park - the building isn't mentioned/shown. The more I think about it - I am for that building. Having the park dead end with the jail across the street would creat...

Final prices haven’t been set but are expected to range from $900,000 to $3 million...“The market is really strong right now and there’s a real dearth of choices for people,” Gunsbury said. “We see this as really fulfilling a need in the market.” Laugh! How about a need for affordable housing in the...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Does anyone know what other retailer may be signing on for the other space? While I'd love to see non-outlet/discount stores move into downtown, it's a start! Thoughts about making City Center a discount/outlet mall for downtown? I'd imagine it would do well if kept up. Could also see other non-disc...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I have to read the articles in more detail about the city's decision, but my automatic response is that the these local, established developers have the city officials wrapped around their fingers and the city isn't willing to take a chance on someone new. Look at the boondagle with the parking ramp...

Third Avenue, 10th Avenue and Franklin Avenue bridges.
http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/286518861.html Repairs to 3 historic bridges. The article mentions that cost estimates for the Franklin Avenue Bridge includes pedestrian lighting. I plan to write to the engineer for the 3rd Avenue Bridge about incorporating historic pedestrian lighting ...

The Hancock has retail/dining at its base as well as an observation deck. The Empire State Building IS iconic and also allows access to an observation deck. PUBLIC access.

Re: Superior Plating site
All I can say is no,no, no to another multilevel retail development in this area. The area's strength and charm is the small, largely independent stores at street level that create a great pedestrian/shopping experience. Riverplace/St. Anthony Main previously failed at their attempts to creating an ...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Again, while also a fan of the Duval proposal - people keep referring to the atrium as having the potential to be as successful as the Crystal Court. The IDS and Crystal Court, however, are basically located in and connect the city core and owe much of their success to that fact. The Duval atrium, h...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Thoughts: First - is anyone else a little disappointed that the city isn't going with a signature park on this lot? The city still needs more green space and a place for large gatherings/events - we've all noted that Peavey is ill designed to accommodate large events, and the Commons will undoubtedl...

Hopeful we get something great here, but also skeptical having followed some recent grand designs for other projects that have been been dwindled down due to cost constraints or harsh feedback/opposition from the community.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
They were letting people in for free Friday before 4pm so we lucked out. We immediate experienced a big problem: the space is no place for a stroller. Frankly, the layout wasn't very well thought out for families. Even families with older kids had trouble keeping them in the narrow lines between bo...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
$3/weekeday, $6/weekends? I still am not a fan of paying a fee, especially since the city paid a bunch of money to go towards this and then you will likely be spending money on drinks, foods, etc. once in. I think they should've designed a commemorative pin that you purchase that gets in you like a ...
