Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I was very sorry to see this when I stopped by there last week. The two for one slices after 2:30 were a great deal!

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
Lots of things are better than an empty building, but a Denny's at this site is no better than any of the 1,600 other Denny's locations.

I think we all know the answer... "Make it look like multiple storefronts!" "Give it an olde world feel!" "More cornices and spray-on stucco!"

Very nice, Grant -- as always. I especially like the way you captured the arrival of the Vogon Constructor Fleet in the top one!

Re: 29th Street Reconstruction Project
Where would a woonerf be *needed*, though? Not a hypothetical, but which actual Minneapolis street? I can't say about Minneapolis, but the only proposed woonerf that I know of in Saint Paul couldn't be argued to be "needed" in any way. Hamline University's 20 year development plan called ...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium
With McGuire describing the stadium site as "ideal" and "iconic" combined with what seems to be an MLS preference for downtown stadiums, I expect they have a decent level of vision for the adjacent property. I'm sure we won't see "Strip Mall 2.0" and certainly have my e...

As near as I can tell, all parcels making up the Midway Center complex are owned by RK Midway. The Rainbow Foods (like the other few remaining Rainbow stores) haven't belonged to Roundy's since they pulled out of the market last year.

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
Back in the late 80's, the biggest issue in our (nearly rural) western Maple Grove neighborhood was the lack of cable TV. At that point in my life, I could actually stomach the morning show on KQRS (back when it was just "Tom and Dan"). I would hear Barnard griping about his lack of cable ...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
I grew up out that way, so I guess I have some excuse for how my mind works. But I don't think I can reconcile the thought of you in a snout house with five acres, a riding mower, septic tank, and all the other lovely accoutrements that come with life in that part of town.

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
When I saw FISHMANPET's location displayed as "Corcoran", my mind immediately (but thankfully, briefly) went just to the west of Maple Grove.

I can't say that I'm impressed with the new design for TCF's (or should that be "tcf's"?) branches being introduced starting with the Minnetonka location. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/2015/10/tcf-giving-banks-a-new-look-starting-in-minnetonka.html Something about ...

Agreed! Moving it closer to University would also make it a tougher sell for the neighborhood.

So does this announcement make it official enough to move this conversation to the Saint Paul board? It would be nice to keep the crickets from chirping over there.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
There was a tunnel proposal back around 2007 that involved a fair amount of demolition that didn't sit well with the neighborhood. It didn't help that at that time the intent seemed to be about making it easier for Roseville residents to drive to the airport (at least based on the quote in this arti...

Good God... Ground Round still exists? Now that they are opening a third location, Taqueria Los Ocampo outlets will outnumber the Ground Round in the greater Twin Cities region... which is a good thing.
