Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Finally some of the major media outlets are pressing for answers on the signal timing: http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_26185459/green-line-thrown-behind-schedule-by-traffic-lights http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/267808201.html I think the pedestrian argument is invalid in St. Pau...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

After 1 month, weekday ridership is already 30,264, while target ridership for 2015 is 27,500. Nice!

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2014/07/1 ... reen-line/
Average weekend ridership is 24,269. Is that per day?

Re: Minneapolis Park System

Loring Park is pretty sad. They need to get rid of the high grass in the pond and put up a sound barrier along I-94.
The high grass is the improve the water quality and prevent erosion. They stopped mowing around the lake around 2001 under a fancy name like "Shoreline Restoration".

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Well there seems to have been a big step back this week in signal timing. Yesterday Lexington to Central was 20 minutes for me, then around 20 again in the afternoon. This morning it was 25 minutes. N=3, I know...but damn.
I agree I have noticed this too.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I have also been watching the Viking webcam a lot and noticed just about every train heading into downtown stops what seems a couple hundred yards from the intersection going into DTE station. The train is stopped for at least a couple minutes before being stopped again when it reaches the light. H...

Re: Road Geek Topics

What's the difference? Those tower lights are horrible. Half the lights are burnt out anyway and the ones that are on are so dim they're useless. This metro area has the worst freeway lighting system that I have ever seen. So many segments don't even have any lighting at all. Several years ago MNDO...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Green line this morning at around 9am was delayed downtown at Government Plaza station "... as we establish the proper spacing between trains". I don't ride that often, is this happening a lot? The train operator came on the PA system and announced that there were two westbound trains at ...

Re: Downtown Office Market

What I don't understand is that it seems like almost every coastal city and/or major city in this country is expanding office space in their downtowns, yet Minneapolis and the Twin Cities support one of the highest concentration of large companies and don't have much of any activity going on. Not t...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

If you read the language, it specifically exempts turns. IIRC, the law was intended to make it easier to ticket people during rush hour who creep into the intersection right when the light turns red and end up blocking cross traffic when the signal changes. I would like to see this enforced more. R...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

The driver said that she was trying to make a left turn when the train side-swiped her. She admitted to pulling too far out, but she said that some kind of barrier might be necessary. "If you go to the left hand side of your lane you're going to get hit by the light rail is what it amounts to,...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

But it's pretty clear that a lot of Green Line ridership is from new folks who wouldn't have taken the bus before.
Me and my wife are 2 of them (at least not riding the bus everyday).

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

The ridership numbers are incredibly encouraging! Especially when you look at how that compares to other major cities and their ridership: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_light_rail_systems_by_ridership The Blue Line averages just over 30,000 riders/day. So coupled that with equa...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

2) No red lights at all between Central and Marion. Only a 30 second pause at Marion, then no red lights until Lexington, again for a short pause. I didn't time the trip but I think it was 12 minutes or so. 3 minutes less than scheduled. Very convenient. That is interesting. My trip from Raymond to...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Now if they can just get signal prioritization at Chicago and 4th. I have had several times where it took 5 minutes or more to get from 11th Ave to Downtown East station.

Re: Midtown Corridor

The problem with a single line is what do you do when you have to shut down the line to build that second track when it is needed. You need to close it as working area is very limited and for safety reasons I doubt you could have construction within 6-8' of an active line. Would only add extra cost...

Re: Midtown Corridor

Is there any reason why we couldn't start this line tiny? I am thinking a single track from the West Lake LRT station to Lyndale with additional stops at East Calhoun Parkway and Hennepin. This route could be short enough to only need a single train running back and forth at a time, so we may only n...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I just sent a bunch of questions to Metro Transit's PR guy, with the hopes of publishing a response on streets.mn sometime in the next week. Did you ever hear back from St. Paul? I have emailed a couple people last week and haven't heard a word back. I emailed MetroTransit and received a response w...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I don't get it. It seemed like the signaling issues was getting better all week, but today it was back to square one. Leaving downtown Minneapolis we needed to stop for signals at the following intersections: - Church Street - Union Street (should never need to stop here) - Walnut - Oak - Ontario - ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I've seen 3 car combos, 2 car combos, and today I even saw a lonely one car LRT headed west with passengers. Any idea why they split them up like this? I have 2 theory's neither of which I have any evidence to support them with: 1) Since trains are not always running on schedule yet, they throw a c...
