Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.

Thanks for the very nice series of pictures. Interesting to think that your photos/view from the SE about a half block away (across the KA site) will only be available for about a year as the KA development fills out...

Plus TCF Bank redevelopment, NorthStar and Baker Center vacancies from WF moves. All of these proposals will not move forward. But the developers need to have options available to shop for potential tenants. The future anchor tenant(s) decides which project moves forward and which one(s) die for lac...

Re: Westminster Church

What surprised me about the proposal was the absence of any reference to their residential tower for seniors. As that was my understanding as to why they wanted to buy this property in the first place. I understand that financing may not have worked out, but this proposal seems to really limit their...

It looks like the original portion has black mullions and the new addition has silver mullions.? Went back and found the drawings and it looks like they are all supposed to be black. It looks pretty odd to me right now. Hope the silver is covered over completely when the windows are installed.

And ours doesn't!? The Portland one looks at least reminiscent of moderne deco with a hint of bauhaus modernism. Agree- Portland got the better design. Modern look with nice verticality and more glass. Our Mpls one looks pretty blah to me. PS- it will be interesting to compare the two designs again...

What's an interactive branding experience? Playing with the Yeti? That map shows 37k USF and 43k RSF on the first floor. I'm not sure what those acronyms mean exactly, but, assuming they stay just on the street level, it looks like they'd be taking pretty much all of it. Cool! USF is usable square ...

I agree with most of the arguments posted so far, generally that Abdul knew it is historic and would carry extra requirements/expenses, as well as historic assets need preservation. But I strongly feel the most egregious issue is the city/HPC not defining historic parameters until after redevelopmen...

Yes! CBRE moving 192 employees into Lasalle Plaza! This means moving 142 out of Bloomington. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/2016/01/cbre-joins-downtown-migration-with-move-to-lasalle.html That building along 494 is just a few years old. CBRE hasn't been in it long, so they'r...

Signage usually lacks any relationship to the architecture- stuck on like a temporary tattoo. TRUMP - I admire the Chicago building very much but the signage just looks gaudy. Feels cheap like Vegas to me. Signage can be done well, but rarely is. But to be contrarian, I really like all the signage i...

This still leaves out the apartment building on 9th, right? Wish in retrospect that someone had gotten them to move the parking entrance from Park to Chicago. Hopefully it won't impact the design of the planned protected bikeway here too much, unlike that block on the 26th St bikeway at Abbott. Apa...

Minneboom- in addition to what Wedgeguy et al posted, the city would still be paying debt service on a demolished building- that is a terrible idea. The current location is very difficult to beat- walking distance to the core for mid week evening games and First Avenue restaurants evolved as they ha...

Their portfolio is, ehhem, suburban . I ran a search on the firm as well, as I had never heard of them. Concur with your conclusion. Also checked AIA: https://www.aia-mn.org/firm/reprise-design-inc/ The listed representative projects tend toward interior tenant improvements of suburban commercial/r...

I agree that the parking entrance is a missed opportunity being placed across from the LRT station. Most of the car traffic will be coming off of 29th, with probably Malcolm second, and 30th third (as both Malcolm and 29th are signalized and a vehicle can cross the LRT tracks). But it sure seems lik...

The north lot on that tower looks ready to be turned into parking when they get the last of the exterior work completed. If they are hoping to break ground on the 4 story office building in spring or early summer per the article above, then they won't be putting in a parking lot only to rip it out ...

Yes I also noticed all the concrete is prefabricated when I walked by. Very interesting and has definitely been quick to assemble. I wonder if the whole building will be fabricated off site. This one will be interesting to watch.
