Re: Green Line (Central)
I honestly believe that taking a lane during off-peak hours for parking could be a good idea. Traffic is fairly low, and I think it could be advantageous, especially on the stretch from Marion to Fairview. I don't know how a bike lane and a parking lane are going to fit. There are a lot of portions ...

Re: Robert Street Corridor
I went to the open house last night. There were three options, the Streetcar and Arterial BRT from Downtown St. Paul to Mendota Road, and the Hwy 52 BRT to 80th Street. I talked to someone working on the project, he said that most of the input from the public has had a preference for a Robert Street...

Re: Green Line (Central)
AFAIK, there will be no stops from Coffman Union to Oak, which is a terrible idea because then you're missing out on the people who take the bus to the hospital and the businesses over that way. The 2 and the 121 will stop at Oak after they turn off of Washington, but I wonder about the Owl 16 as we...

Re: Transit News and Happenings
I did some research in the city council meetings of Shakopee and Prior Lake. They talked to SW Transit, MVTA, and Met Council/Metro Transit. They felt that it was best to have merger talks with MVTA. There is also some information in the Scott County Transit Review Board meetings: http://bluexpressb...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
The RIVER Line runs every 30 minutes. The Kenilworth Corridor will have trains every 10 minutes running at 45-55 mph and freights that run at 10 mph.
The RIVER Line is also a diesel light rail line. The freights could have clearance issues with the overhead wires.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
It isn't possible because the freights would be limited to the middle of the night, and the LRT is currently a 22 hour per day operation. The freights also want to increase the number of trains their running, and there is no precedent for the FRA allowing freights and transit to run on the same trac...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Is any vehicular traffic allowed on Washington Avenue now that two tracks have been built in the middle? Cars and trucks are not allowed on the transit-pedestrian mall, which extends from Pleasant Street to Walnut Street. Buses will operate on the guideway. There is one outer lane on each side for ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
The complaint that the line only serves the wealthy suburbs is false, IMO. The areas of St. Louis Park and Hopkins that it serves are moderate to low income, and the areas of Minnetonka and Eden Prairie served are primarily industrial. In fact the wealthiest area served is that in the Kenilworth cor...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
So Mn/Dot released a summary of their recent Hwy 13 study. http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy13study/pdf/studyupdate.pdf A few suggestions from that: - Double left from Nicollet to Hwy 13, double lane entrance from WB 13 to NB 35W - Near term reconstruction of the Washburn intersection, c...

I've always felt that the speed humps in Minneapolis were quite effective and well thought out, in comparison to the speed humps and bumps that are in the nearby suburbs.

Re: Midtown Corridor
http://www.metrotransit.org/project-library Some more detailed maps, and cross-sections. Looks like the biggest detriment to the trails is at Hennepin Ave. Otherwise the trails are basically the same as existing. Weird that there are stations at both Nicollet and 35W. Definitely should be combined.

Please explain the 4 bus thing going to VW station. Would it be a branch of the 4, as it wouldn't make any sense to have buses from south Minneapolis run to VW and then into Downtown or bypass downtown. I didn't ask about the bus routes, just reporting what I saw on the maps. I would imagine that t...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
As much as I dislike freeways, I feel MnDot is planning this wrong. Why are they building a freeway connection to Wisconsin, but just a few years ago decided to not remove the few lights that remain on 36 in Stillwater? Seriously, there will be a 169-494-esque project in 20 years because they aren't...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Went to the open house in Kenwood tonight. A lot of angry people, which was expected. A lot of people who thought that the Penn and Van White stations should be eliminated in addition to the station at 21st Street. Someone was complaining that criminals would rob houses on Kenwood Parkway and use th...
