Re: Road Geek Topics

Considering engineers have been telling us for years that road design dictactes speed, and speed limits should be based on road design and not made-up numbers, I find it hilarious that some people are just finding out now that replacing one made-up number with another has esssentially nil practical ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

My take on it is that the car-haters have been doing so much shaming lately that we can't just be honest about the fact that it's simply a badly needed new freeway.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Yeah, it's usually the middle guys that get squeezed out. Anyone remember Mervyn's and Carson's? I think the stigma of shopping at Walmart is basically gone now, so "at least we're not Walmart" is no longer a winning strategy. Also I heard "Walmart is a grocery store that also sells h...

"Amazon workers are back in the office three days a week and Walmart workers are returning two days a week. Both companies recently reported stronger second-quarter earnings than Target." Are they trying to imply Amazon and Walmart have stronger second-quarter earnings because they're hurt...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I'm assuming they hired the best qualified candidate. The argument is we'd be better off with a director that's not as qualified but willing to put up with the lost time, hassle, and expense of having to drive to the office every day? Is his job to physically wander around the libraries and notice t...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Is there some evidence our libraries would be better directed if the directer lived locally and spewed carbon out of his car on the way to a local office?

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

Do you want to buy a house in this market?

If yes, keep in mind there's five people behind you that aren't going to demand a home inspection, either house flippers with cash or people that are apparently more desperate to buy a house than you are.

Don't know about that Country Inn specificially, but now that it's no longer part of whatever Carlson Travel is called today, Country Inn can no longer relay on captive booking form Carlson travel agents, and they're not in any way distinguishable from a Hampton Inn or a Holiday Inn Express. Country...

Re: Valleyfair - Shakopee

I was at an event back in the mid 90s where Valleyfair was rented out overnight. As soon as we got in, one of the people we were with thought it would be a good idea to go on the Wave while wearing a heavy cotton shirt and jean shorts, and needless to say her clothes didn't dry out the entire night....

Re: Valleyfair - Shakopee

Do kids nowadays even care about Peanuts, or is the idea that the theming is targeted at nostalgic adults, who are the ones taking their kids there? My hunch is Thunder Canyon will be the next ride to dissappear. 1) It's old. 2) There's been some high profile incidents involving old raft rides 3) Th...

Forgot I had started this thread when I posted my thoughts of this year in the Shakopee thread... As for the creator visit, I saw that too. It's now been 16 years since we've gotten a coaster. Speculation has that this is due to Cedar Fair's financial issues related to absorbing Paramount Parks and ...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

As much as I like rail as opposed to buses, Pragmatically I think if we're going to meaningfully improve transit to Dakota county I'm thinking A) Extend the Red Line to downtown, and B) On the Orange Line, 1) Build inline stations at 98th and 66th, 2) build direct ramps to and from the center lanes ...

Yeah, when they announced the chaperone policy there was some discussion on Reddit. And there were a lot of posts of the nature "Mom would drop me in the morning with lunch money and a bag with my swimming suit and towel in and then pick me up at night" type of memories. I didn't see it be...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Wonder if we can have cameras take and issue tickets for expired registrations and defective equipment. A defective brake light is a safety hazard to both the occupants of the vehicle and other vehicles on the road. That's why we bother to require brake lights.
