Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Saw a train of Bombardiers roll through downtown today, the first vehicle of which had been retrofitted with the new destination signs. The blue square was a darker blue that more closely matches the blue on the signs, not the eye-searing bright blue that the Siemens vehicles have.

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

Amtrak's starting date will be announced next week.

As mentioned in the Green Line thread, don't read the comments. They're extraordinarily vile, even by online commenting standards.

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development

Argh. More surface parking is the last thing Dinkytown needs. Though maybe it'll help blunt some of the SD fury? They do love their surface parking.

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development

Cool! If that second-level patio gets used a lot, I think this will be a cool addition to 4th. I'm wondering why the house on 13th needs to be demolished, though, since the first rendering doesn't show the building extending east of the Post Office property line at all. Not that I'm particularly att...

Came down at 7:15 this morning.I actually woke up at 7:45 and was planning to go over and watch at 8:30, but, luckily, checked Twitter first.

That was my thinking. I can't imagine Doran would want to try to get another demo permit in a separate meeting.

Nope. One of the apartments burned out, but the fire fighters saved the remainder of the building. It's open for business.

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development

In his most recent post to the FB group, Matt Hawbaker says: "Its become fairly clear that his plan will also include buying and demolishing Espresso Royale to create an alley-way entrance into his proposed hotel, so there is likely a lot more at stake than appears at the moment." Has anyo...

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)

There was a post from ThePumpGuy,if I remember correctly, a couple months ago saying that his company was about to finish pouring LPM, and that their next project was 400 Marquette. So there's that, I guess. As far as the Xcel building goes, the Xcel internal website says Ramp Demolition in 3Q 2014,...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

There's other people who think 3A should be built ASAP, rather than delaying it by 5+ years, (including me, if the stupid tunnel(s) get scrapped) but I think David is the only person who's actually argued that 3A is actually a better routing than 3C, disregarding external constraints.

Yeah, if Target (or UHG, or Medtronic) out of the blue decided to abandon their new suburban campus, we could get what Seattle's getting. #boundlessoptimism

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

The Blue Line runs until ~1am on weekdays, and later on weekends. I could be wrong, but I'd assume the Green Line will run that late as well.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Uptown already has good transit service. Argue all you want but it is some of the best in the metro. Equity demands that we invest elsewhere to close the gaps. This is the worst argument for 3A over 3C. LRT shouldn't be for bringing transit to areas that don't have it. That should be buses, so when...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

I've gotta assume that SPUD will get some type of long-term parking setup when Amtrak moves in, but at the very least, you could probably do the Ramp-Ride-Fly thing at the ABC ramps for the Empire Builder as well.

It totally would be. But if there's one thing that Mankato will never accept, it's that the Civic Center will never be much more than the Maverick Hockey arena, no matter how many hotels they build or how much money they pour in.

I still don't understand why the Wilfs are greedy bastards and the Pohlads are upstanding civic advocates in the eyes of people here. They're not that different. Because, when Target Field had some cost overruns, the Pohlads covered them out of their own pocket, but when the final numbers came in f...

Re: West Calhoun Apartments - (3118 West Lake Street)

To my mind, "tower" signifies a building that has a footprint:height ratio below a certain point, not just a building above a certain height. So, like mattaudio said, is The Bridges a tower? Maybe, maybe not, but Middlebrook Hall certainly is, despite being only a few feet taller. So I can...

Cool! While Stadium Village does have a lot of pizza places, none of them sell quick slices, at least as far as I'm aware.
