Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I am getting old...everyone knows they used to be here, right? The Omni Northstar. Restaurant was The Rosewood room, I think? And used the outdoor terrace on the 17th floor...or whatever floor that is.

Re: Boulevard trees
I think it is interesting that the park board is trying out those London Planetree so much now...it is a Sycamore hybrid. You see a few Sycamore/London Planetree that are older scattered through the city, but they are pretty rare as Minneapolis is a far north reach for them. With the upping the Miss...

Did we have record of the Ramada along 35W and Industrial becoming a "Delta Hotels | Marriott" hotel? Yikes how many marquees does one company need? http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcmsp-210589.pdf Delta was a Canadian chain that Marriott picked u...

Re: Nicollet Mall
Glad to hear...I wish I could get down there and check on everything and all the developments, but I have moved to LA! Thank goodness for this forum:) I would be much more homesick without it.

Re: Nicollet Mall
Yeah, and it was brought up several times....there were a few articles in the Strib about their tree choices.
I will say though...WCCO has a Paper Birch in their plaza that has done well...and the ones in the plaza over at MCTC have done okay. So you never know.

Re: Nicollet Mall
They like cool climates and lots of moisture...surrounded by hot concrete wouldn't be their favorite. They used some River Birch (I know the city has been doing some of those on the boulevards) and Paper Birch (white bark). The River Birch are more hardy and stronger. I hope the city isn't putting p...

Re: Nicollet Mall
I would expect them to be late...the first few years. And some will surely need to be replaced. Large trees always look a little iffy when they are moved. We have seen good examples with Gold Medal Park, recently the Commons (those trees are still going through growing pains) and now here. It is nic...

Re: Nicollet Mall
One thing I have been wondering is...Do they plan on returning any kind of planters to the mall? They removed quite a few, and of course all of the mobile ones too...if something like at least the mobile ones isn't put back, it is going to be pretty barren.

Re: Cambria / Fairfield Hotels - 41 10th Street N (former Ramada block)
This will have a big visual impact on that side of downtown from the street though...as it is now, and has been for years, looking from Hennepin in this direction it feels like you are on the edge of a vast nothingness.

When this was originally floated by the developer a couple months ago...I feel like it had a much more interesting 10 story design? Guess the neighborhood went for the shorter wider version again?

Also, it seems to me that this design is backwards...the downtown facing side would seem to make more sense facing the river.

Looks kind of like the jumbled RBC building in Raleigh, without the spire.
