Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St

So the occupants of the Case Building nearby this Weyerhauser site are to date: Kimley Horn A/E firm, The Lab pilot brewery and tap room (which is an excellent place to hang out despite the view being a surface parking lot), and a seminary. And they still have space to fill. As to the new park in th...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

Seems like Mpls denser development is working its way east to St. Paul, tho St. Paul did 2700 University Apts already at the border and has dense stuff going in south of Franklin Not surprised at the interest in Wells Fargo, pharmacy area, given Westgate and PP LRT stations are so close, filling in ...

Re: Raymond Station area developments

Creative enterprise zone is doing a mural festival in Sept - if you know of any blank walls in the Raymond/Univeristy area that would make a good mural canvas, know a building owner etc, let them know.

Re: Bike Share

I have an pedal assist ebike and ride it on city streets and trails to work - I get passed at 20 mph, on flats and downhills, all the time by more fit regular bikers. I average 18 mph because I don't slow down going up hills much. On Gateway trail on weekday mornings, there are so few people I feel ...

Re: Raymond Station area developments

So the entire underground parking area is for retail?

Because I see open spots all the time closer to the apartment entrances, also.

More open spots in retail area tho.

Re: Raymond Station area developments

It's unfortunate that the first two floors of this will be parking. It's almost more like a parking ramp with wrapped by some housing and some retail - hopefully they can repurpose those parking levels in future. I guess they had underground pollution issues so underground parking wasn't going to wo...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

I worry about concrete plazas - they can become forlorn, wind-swept zombie lands if there is not enough people wandering around on them. The ideal artificial plaza/ park space in a downtown area, in my mind has sufficient space, greenery, and interest to draw people but not too much empty space to l...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

I like the instinct to connect the upper city with the lower river front with terraced destinations - open view to the river, the retail, patios, stairs..but I want to know how bikes get up those stairs....

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development

There seems to be quite a bit of demand for residential near transit. Hello A Line meets Green Line. Why not some tall residential with some street front retail and coworking, smaller office places on, say the second floor. Not that much different than say Vintage, which rents for good money, right?

Re: Ford Plant Redevelopment - Highland Park

It will probably be the bulge of population of Millenial's kids that finally fill out this site. By 2030, probably going to cooling off in real estate values as Millennials will be past their peak household formation and peak homebuying period (2020-2024). And there a bunch of trends that will likel...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

Building high end office and residential space facing the river seems smart to me, it could make St. Paul become very interesting employers and residents that haven't considered it before. The views in all directions would be amazing, either the across the river, up the river towards Mounds Park, or...

For another comparison to downtown and Ford Site, the Creative Enterprise Zone, roughly the south half of St. Anthony Park has 43, 000 jobs, this from a recent CEZ email: "Pop quiz: How many jobs, of all types, are based here in the Creative Enterprise Zone? a) under 23,000 b) about 33,000 c) o...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

To me the modern economy of cities is trending toward more mixing. Districts that are all office towers, all residential, all industrial seem a thing of the past. Most people who want to live in denser areas seem most interested in this mixing - retail at street level, offices mixed in with resident...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Sounds like it will happen, seems like a incremental change that won't make anything a that much worse and will make it much better for riders. Having lived near the now A Line, I can't express enough to people how excellent that aBRT is, and how much better for long time transit riders it is, how m...
