Re: Prospect Park Senior Living (Malcom and 4th St SE)
So the bike parking reduction seems very short sighted to me if it is for whole plan. The assisted care and memory units will not just have residents, they will need a fair amount of employees. The day care - will have employees and parents dropping off kids via bikes, as well as the residents and s...

iDK what they mean, but it went out to bid sometime ago so I think it has to be close to building time. When it says Midwest Climbing is "Currently Underway", what does that mean?

Re: City living trends and predictions
The time to regulate AVs is now. The political will will only be harder to muster once people incorporate them into their daily routines, and tech companies are not going to wait for governments to get their acts together before turning these things loose. We should have city ordinances on the book...

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
Melo's article mentions it as two parks, but its just one piece of land, the main rectangular park in the middle of the site and the curved old RR spur part that goes south and east of the main park land, that will be the trail land. There is also small triangle of land at sout, east end of the curv...

Re: City living trends and predictions
If ride-sharing apps, increased transit and computer-driven cars could reduce the number of vehicles on the road maybe we could make convert more of our streets to those proposals with Northside Greenway or etc. It'll be great to get back some of that acreage. (As you mention in your article.) I pe...

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
The only thing I don't like about beside 17 stories being a bit much, is the setback white building with only one? floor at street level. I would have out a few floors right up to street there and then setback. IDK why, but several story buildings - like 3-4-5 right close to sidewalk and street seem...

Re: RE: Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
I guess I put the analogy poorly. I think there is a bit of a status quo bias in the idea circulating that one shouldn't detract from the view of the tower, or take something away from it by being taller. If the high point there existed without the tower, and someone proposed a tower on the natural...

Re: RE: Baker School -- 821 Raymond
The owner of the Baker School building at Raymond and Territorial has applied to rezone the two lots making up the site to T3. The application says that no changes to the property are planned at this time. Hmm. Just trying to increase the future value of the property, understandable. But wonder if ...

Apparently the developer and American Engineering we're asked to try to work out their issues before final ruling on this, decision pushed to May. I think the residential in the area can be fine with nearby industrial uses. It's zoned I-1.

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars
Will kids and pretty much anyone who currently isn't allowed to operate a vehicle be able to use an AV on their own? This assumes the vehicle is fully autonomous and the rider doesn't need to take control at all. sure - parents use Uber to ferry their older kids a lot already - I'm sure kids of a c...

Also, where is best way to go with bike? Residents will know this stuff but for people using retail, some wayfinding, signage would be very good idea for safety and flow.

Do you think "The Commons" -- the park in front of the Vikings stadium will get much day-to-day (non-event) use? Its sort of nice, but the location is a big weird, you would need to choose that park over the river. I actually sort of think Downtown east is sort of over-parked, at least in...

Again, I was told there wasn't developer interest to make it higher density. Apparently the neighborhood was desperate for a drive-thru coffee shop and didn't want to wait for something better. Also, many in the neighborhood probably like strip malls. The other commercial area for D2 is White Bear ...

Re: RE: Re: Future cars / Driverless cars
I believe it was in Burnsville's Comprehensive Plan it was mentioned traffic lights would no longer be needed with AVs. Everyone wants to use AVs instead of driving, biking, or walking right? The no traffic light thing seems way further out than AVs becoming vast majority of trips/miles. Even the v...

Huh? There would be outrage about any private (and most public) development in any neighborhood park, and rightly so. The analogy doesn't hold at all. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk so you think the tower should never have been built? No, I'm saying the analogy is flawed because: We're talkin...

Re: RE: Re: The Link at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE
When I visited the store this weekend, I found it confusing with what I think are 3 entrances? I also noticed people jumping off the rail platform and cutting across the tracks to get to the entrance near the LRT. They may want to put a fence up there. Thats bad. Makes sense that with all the new d...

Re: RE: Re: The Link at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE
Is there a "back" entrance from the light rail? Or do you have to walk around the block? If you get off the light rail and face the Link, there is a staircase in the middle of the block on 29th. Walk up this and you end up essentially in an unfinished drop-off zone that is attached to the...
