Re: Downtown Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks
I mean doesn't this just duplicate the purpose of the stone arch bridge, just from a worse viewing angle?

Sounds like this is close to moving forward, however no mention of the 22 story tower, only a 6 floor affordable housing component and a parking ramp.

Re: Labeling the Transit System
The way they label transfer stations seems to be pretty inconsistent as well. For example all of the downtown minneapolis LRT stops are given a white bar, but nothing for the bloomington/airport stations where the blue and riverview interline except for the MOA. Same for pretty much everything in do...

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp
Doesn't downtown zoning still prevent any new single-use parking structures, which this would clearly be? I don't get all the angst here when this is clearly going to get denied by zoning and planning. Or is the fed somehow exempt from this.

Re: 2019-2020 MN Legislative Session / Budget / Bonding
No, it's for funding suburban road expansion. All gas tax is constitutionally "used solely for highway purposes". Motor vehicle sales taxes are what get split 60/40% in favor of highways vs transit, but they make up a smaller funding source than the gas tax. This is a good source for the c...

Why not option 7, but after West Lake station take Excelsior over to France ave. Then it can hit all the nodes from the other options while providing more connectivity between the LRT and Uptown.
Edit: Matt beat me to it.

MnDOT Corridors of Commerce program money for 2018 announced this morning. $204 million for one interchange: http://www.startribune.com/state-awards-i-494-i-35w-interchange-other-highways-400m-for-major-renovations/481405051/ Lol, these are basically all in the metro area to improve commute times. ...

It's why I wait for a Strib article before reacting to things like this.Headline: CRISIS!
Article: This is a normal and expected situation.
Result: clickbait.

People are forgetting that MSP was a contender for hosting the college football national championship the last time around it was bid. Ultimately we lost to a few no brainer sites like Atlanta and Phoenix but I would expect us to make a bid the next time it comes up in 2025.

Missed this little gem in the Strib over the weekend: New parking ramps could return to Minneapolis, in disguise City might lift ban on homely stand-alone ramps if they're largely hidden from view http://www.startribune.com/new-parking-ramps-could-return-to-minneapolis-in-disguise/456715053/ Sounds ...

Dang, I was hoping retail rents were finally coming down. That would be much better for the whole area.

Just put it on the ballot and let voters pick the name from a limited selection. A bunch of liberal busybodies may want to change the name but that doesn't mean everyone has to go along with what they pick to replace it.

That's already going to happen with the way the StP mayoral candidates are giving in to the Highland Park NIMBYs on this site. Minnesota’s bid will be “restrained,” Dayton says. http://www.startribune.com/gov-mark-dayton-says-state-of-minnesota-s-amazon-hq-bid-to-be-restrained/444027563/ Probably good news for people against the proposal (and other cities that want it). This project is gift that just keeps on giving...to transit opponents that is. At this point it seems like the supporters of this project as-is only do so to keep opponents from getting a win. All the delays, overruns, and problems with this line have set back mass transit support in this city damn ...

What do we have to gain? How about what do we have to lose? Amazon is the company that will in all likelihood put Target and Best Buy out of business. No matter where HQ2 ends up we're staring down the barrel of losing tens of thousands of corporate headquarters jobs sometime in the near future. I u...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
50,000 employees and 8M+ square feet is far larger than any single building in this state (Think 10 times the size of the WF project). It's going to have to be a multiple building complex. Really, our best site for this is probably the Ford plant site or TCAAP and there's already huge pushback again...
