Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
A few months back on one of these topics there was the sentiment that the media was unfairly pinning the pandemic impacts on the city and that it’s actually more or less ‘as bad’ all over. On Saturday I had a buddy visit who lives in Golden Valley and came here directly from a grad party in the far ...

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
With all the closings of the past year is there any actual evidence that retail rent pressure is still to the upside in the area?

Re: RBC Gateway (Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 519'
Why do people on here always have to be so negative or make such snarky comments I'm so sorry you were offended . Truth is truth. Adults accept that. You guys are all a bunch of passive aggressive fuck wads. Was wondering why I even continued to bother following this site. Glad I no longer live in ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
It's certainly bad all over, but the impacts are far more noticeable downtown (as in impactful on the quality of life). Basically the draw of downtown is the things that have been crushed as a result of the pandemic (walkable vibrancy). The 'draw' of Eden Prairie doesn't change all that much even i...

While that's good for a snicker, unfortunately the 'answer' appears to be that either no one cares, no one is paying attention, or both.Looking at Gaviidae's website leaves me with more questions than answers http://www.gaviidaecommon.com/

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Oof! It's so depressing. According to the article, Banana Republic in IDS closed earlier this year and the Juut Salon in Gavidae will close soon. I do think the Star Tribune has produced an disproportionate number of articles about downtown Minneapolis. What's the future of the 494 office strip, wh...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
I guess it's not surprising that coverage of the Great Office Absence focused on downtowns, since that's where the effects (and the reporters) were most concentrated. But it's definitely silly that predictions about the future of offices have focused on downtowns. Downtown offices are the most prod...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Great. You just cursed it.As long as headquarters is next door, this store will exist
In all seriousness though, I know some influential Target employees that are in no hurry to get back downtown with all that’s going on. It’s kinda becoming chicken and egg.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
My biggest work at home complaint is that this potentially becomes a huge handout from employees to employers. I am honestly shocked their their hasn’t been more uproar about this (yet). My house is now effectively 10–15% smaller due to two home offices taking up space that my family basically can’t...

Re: Star Tribune (& other local media)
It used to have a voice but now it reads more like someone's mean tweets. All of there articles now read as beyond condescending and bitter I've definitely noticed that vibe too. Waaaaay too much mean-spirited and petty stuff. As you mention, it comes off as an attempt to be a pseudo-journalistic v...

Re: Crime
Any lawyers, feel free to chime in, but AFAIK murder is commonly defined as the unlawful killing of one by another. I did a quick google search and it backs up the 'unlawful' aspect (Merriam Webster: "1: the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought", Wikiped...

Re: Crime
It is clear to me that for many council members the priority earlier this summer was saying anything that would 'delight the mob'. They are now reaping what they've sown. Next shoe to drop could very well be 'The Trial' getting moved to St. Cloud or something due in large part to moronic public stat...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
I forsee businesses trying to save money with permanent hybrid models. Although, part of me feels like workplaces owe their employees an office and shouldn't be forced to use their homes as offices and basically help higher ups save money. Now if you compensated for using space in my home as an off...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
We got the official word yesterday: my (mid-size) employer envisions no more than 60% return to office at any given time - permanently. Seems likely there will be a hybrid model of some sort to get us there. Now, I'm sure they'll need some 'decompression' to accomplish that so it's hard to say exact...

Re: Public Street Blocked by Residents
The article about this in the Strib quotes some of the residents as looking to leave the city, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once they move to the burbs this shouldn't be a problem.

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
First time poster. Yeah I read that article and couldn’t believe that either. To me the distressing part is the selfishness couched in ‘virtue’. Yes, there is a chance these kids could have met with undue force from a cop. However I gotta think the chance that a gun in their hands is ultimately used...
