Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
had you read the red line expansion plan you would understand why they did not do that. So why didn't they? And why not have the Lakeville extension go to downtown Lakeville? Transit lines are developed in area that have density AND more importantly have opportunities for additional development. Th...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I haven't been to Union Depot before so my sister and I decided to go and take advantage of the free park and ride and free LRT passes. It took about an hour and 20 minutes from the 28th Ave station as opposed to probably a half hour driving and my sister was like "that takes a long time but a...

So why didn't they? And why not have the Lakeville extension go to downtown Lakeville?had you read the red line expansion plan you would understand why they did not do that.It would make far more sense to extend the Red Line an extra 5 minutes to downtown Farmington, an actual place.

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
I drove down Cedar south of Apple Valley to see what it looks like right now since they want to eventually extend the Red Line to Lakeville. Most of the area is just farm fields, and the only development I've seen are some single family homes. Just south of Lakeville Blvd. (Dakota County Road 50) th...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
^On the political side, you nailed it. It's taking a reasonable and now doable idea and using it for posturing on both sides. I thought it was extremely petty for MNDOT and the Met Council to essentially come out and take a public dump on the proposal as soon as it was put forth. That's not how dea...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Went to the meeting as well. I feel it's likely that dedicated BRT or LRT on White Bear Avenue won't go through simply because businesses and homeowners wouldn't want White Bear Avenue widened, and certainly wouldn't want a lane taken out. My hope is that, for now, arterial BRT is chosen to White Be...

Wig-wags?! Those are supposed to be called ditch lights!Metro Transit is adding wig wag to the trains.
Already seen a few with that design. Problem is, people still don't pay attention.

Re: 2015 Minnesota State Rail Plan
...I never suggested Amtrak would be interested in a line from Northfield to Minneapolis. I suggested a line from Minneapolis to Kansas City. If you guys can't be bothered to actually read my comments then I clearly am just wasting my time here. To Kansas City is what the Spine Line is for. If this...

Re: 2015 Minnesota State Rail Plan
Amtrak wouldn't have anything to do with regional rail (i.e. the Dan Patch corridor), so contact them would be useless. MnDOT may not have much, if anything, because 2002 legislation specifically prohibited future planning along the Dan Patch corridor. That legislation prohibits MnDOT, the Metropol...

Re: 2015 Minnesota State Rail Plan
I've tried contacting MnDOT about what exactly they would plan with the Dan Patch Corridor but no luck. From a Star Tribune article I read awhile ago the plan is for passenger trains going non-stop between Minneapolis and Northfield, and if that is the plan, that is completely idiotic and none of th...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
General question-Sometimes there is a loud buzzing noise at the front/back of the cars when it's accelerating/decelerating. What is it? It happens more often in cold weather so I feel like it has something to do with the brakes but I'm not sure. Never heard it on the Type I vehicles, just the Type II.

Re: Mall of America Transit Station: Master Plan
What I find ridiculous is that it takes 4 minutes just to get between the MOA Station and 28th Avenue Station. They should've gone with the original plan of having the station along 28th Avenue across the street from the East Parking Ramp. Right now the area is just an overflow lot and used for Stat...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
I tried Route 494 twice. Once for fun, but the second time was actually convenient since I was biking in Shakopee and didn't want to bike all the way back to Bloomington. It took awhile since I had to connect to Route 694 at SW Station but better than having to bike up the river valley. I'd like to ...

Re: What if We Shut Down Our Transit System?
The typical congestion argument (transit reduces congestion!) has always been a loser for the pro-transit crowd. I think it's pretty safe to say that transit doesn't impact congestion in any meaningful way and won't for the foreseeable future. Indeed if we completely shut down our transit system, m...

What if We Shut Down Our Transit System?
For a moment, let's pretend we actually agree to what the anti-transit, pro-automobile groups say. The Met Council is either stripped of it's power or is taken over by a much more conservative leadership. No more light rail, as in the extension of the Blue and Green lines are dropped. And to make su...

Re: Robert Street Corridor Arterial BRT
I suggested a trolleybus (buses with overhead wires) as a compromise between ABRT and streetcar. I forget the reason why it wasn't looked at but I feel it would be a good compromise for this corridor; cheaper bus, but permanence of a streetcar line.

Delayed a year. http://www.startribune.com/north-minneapolis-rapid-bus-project-on-penn-avenue-faces-new-delay/375587041/ But of course we have $2 million to waste on a few dozen riders along the 169 corridor.
