Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Yes, while parking lots on top of the freeway wouldn't be anywhere near an ideal use of the air rights, it takes care of the costs of decking. That doesn't preclude something better from being there in the future.

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE

Some of the comments on the Yglesias article are getting a bit hysterical, but I give the Save Dinkytown movement credit for their ability to mobilize, even if I don't find their goal here to be particularly in the area's best interest.

Re: International Viewers - Blocking IPs

Yeah good point I'll probably just do China to start with and see how that goes. I don't know if this is historically an issue, but I do sometimes look at the forums when I'm in Hong Kong visiting people. If that's banned under the China umbrella band, it's not a huge issue, it's only for a couple ...

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota

I've filled a few options in, primarily in my neck of the woods (naturally). Generally so far the suggestions seem relatively on target, but I'm hoping that wherever they pick, the planners expand in the same direction enough so that there is a decent enough coverage area that ridership increases.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Tennis courts aren't exactly overused places (I've never had a problem getting one in Northeast Minneapolis), so I tend to think that won't be the most efficient use of limited downtown parkland. I can see the arguments for soccer fields more, but at the same time, I don't think that many people are...

Re: MSP Airport

Not sure; I e-mailed them about a year ago to tell them their RSS feed was broken and never got a reply/the RSS fixed.

Re: MSP Airport

Speaking of international flights, we're getting a new Costa Rica one:

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota

I think the lack of density is really paralyzing the system, because it makes it useful for only some trips, essentially. I think it'd be great if they could get a 30 or so station expansion that doesn't try to push the borders of the coverage area any further and just tries to fill in gaps. DC did ...

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota

Don't know if anyone else has seen this PDF here that they accidentally appear to have made public: interesting analysis of how they internally view stations and what they perceive of St. Paul stations. Disappointing lack of discussion of too much future expansion, but it sounds like those hoping fo...

Re: Vikings Stadium

I couldn't catch everything they said about the brief park moment: did they propose more or less breaking of the street grid than we had anticipated?

Re: 35W North - MnPass and BRT

I'm trying to think of where they'd put the station at Stinson to be really accessible to anyone. The Quarry basically makes it sort of a pedestrian wasteland. I also always thought that if they did BRT on this corridor they should consider running it on Highway 88 for its existence to cut off the b...

Re: Saint Paul streetcar study

I'm surprised they didn't do a better job potentially allowing transfers with LRT. A few of those lines appear to not intersect at stations, which really minimizes the effectiveness any streetcar network as a feeder.
