Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)

It's really no smaller than the tower of "Nic on fifth (465 Nicollet Mall)." On a side note, don't you think the address of "Nic on fifth" would've been better as "1 east 5th street" and thus a better name? Edit:Not that Nick is a bad name! Just better suited to people ...

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)

Is anyone else bothered by the bathroom to bedroom ratio? A three or four bedroom apartment with three or four bathrooms, come on! No wonder this buildings so big. How many of those windows will provide voyeristic views to the traffic on 35w? This whole amenities thing has gone far too out of hand. ...

Re: Happy Hour!

Tracks would be a good location if your looking to hold the Happy Hour at 8am and are trying to scare everyone away from becoming an alcoholic.

I'd vote for the Dubliner, and if it's on a Monday through Wednesday I'd likely join you all.

Yessir! I've spotted the refuge islands on Hamlin, Lexington, Western and Dale. I would assume they're on Victoria, Pascal and the others further west as well.

I was driving through Rosemount on Monday and there was a monster of a crane at the refinery lifting a huge building. Came back today and it looked like they were finished with the lift. That crane is the largest and tallest piece of equipment at the refinery, looks like it belongs in an open pit mi...

Re: Satori (Broadway from Aldrich-Emerson)

Completely agree. If we tear these down we'll lose a whole part of the city that is still connected to Minneapolis's past in many different ways, good and bad historically. Entire books would be dedicated to this stretch of West Broadway and urbanists generations from now will curse our names for le...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning

I think we already have something along those lines, you just have to cross the river to get there. I guess that might be asking too much from most folks though... http://www.winter-carnival.com/about_us/history/ Maybe a concerted effort to expand the carnival and bring back the Ice Palace would help

Re: Unique Twin Cities Sites

There is this place a friend showed me late at night, right by Moose and Sadie and by Interact. It's an old gallery/studio that's best viewed after hours. You walk down a little alley walkway next to N 2nd st and you come across a store front with strange things in the window, push all the different...

Re: Dinkytown

I heard from someone who works in Dinkytown that the building/buildings that house Al's Breakfast were or are in the process of being sold to opus and that after their lease is up it will not be renewed. If it's true, it will be a sad nail in the coffin....

They're concrete, and listed by the HPC. http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/hpc/landmarks/hpc_landmarks_26th_ave_n_300-314_concrete_block%20_rowhouse Painted brick, concrete block. Hell Yeah! Although the HPC can still throw a few curve balls, don't go celebrating just yet... And David, I remember when I was a kid waiving to the lady sitting on top of that car at the Camden salvage yard, every time we'd drive by. And Hawthorn may have one of my favorite buildings in the city, ...

Re: Northside - General Topics

I wonder if W Broadway, aside from the strip mall style development, would have any chance at attaining a historically designated district. It's really the only large remaining collection of early century commercial buildings in Minneapolis.

If we're thinking 20/40/60 years down the road, wouldn't it be a more comfortable solution to remove the HERC from the north loop and use county owned land to expand the station?

You know, I think I'm ok with that...I once had a friend who lived in the basement of that building across from kstp and he had a rat come out his toilet. Gross. I've heard that the rat population in the sewers has to be disturbingly high for to happen and it sends shiver down my spine.

I was thinking today about how much we all wished for and love to talk about 3C, and with the light rail system hopefully advancing, maybe it's time to start thinking of the next line to be developed after Bottineau and this would be a great candidate. North town mall to Bloomington through downtown...

Or we could refer to it as the longhouse as it does resemble one on a much much more massive scale.
