Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
This is going to look like Darth Vaders helmet until the zinc weathers. Then it will at least have more of a Death Star appearance on the east elevation.

Re: 360 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
The changed orientation is a great improvement in regard to the urban context and it's relationship to the library. This looks to be going in the right direction.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I would love to see more height as well. I wonder how many units the downtown market can handle. I'm hoping for at least this and one of the Opus buildings.

Thanks for the thorough break down! You have to love some of the concerns that can be brought up in a neighborhood meeting.

The apartment building approvals have been appealed by the neighborhood to city council. The 4.5 story building is deemed too large.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I have to admit I loved the "tower porn" aspect of the 80 story proposal. But you can't build a tower with smoke and mirrors. I hope the city thoroughly scrutinizes the final selection and makes it something great for the city. Regardless, its too bad that any of the remaining selections w...

Re: Mill & Main West - (425 Main Street Southeast)
I think the detail looks poorly conceived and executed. The architect doing the design knew it was going to be wood framed above the podium, why not work with the building system? Unless of course they like the detail of the mass slightly reducing at the top…which doesn’t seem likely as the proporti...

I'm starting to get the feeling that if the Duval proposal isn't selected there will be a mass suicide from the top of the IDS into Crystal Court.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Thoughts: I find the Duval porposal to certianly have an iconic feel. The height would certainly make a mark on the skyline and it would be great to add to it. I would however like to see more of it. I also like the Doran proposal the tower element is nicely done, and I like the lantern aspect of it...

Re: L&H Station - Lake & Hiawatha TOD
I would like to add to the discourse about Sam’s article. Every building needs some back of house function – he selected a picture of a path through meters and a parking garage and then compares it to street front examples and adorned interior courtyards. Further he uses images from European medieva...

The mez simply needs the head clearance to be allowed for height. The floor area of the mez depends on the type of construction and fire ratings, Concrete = the mez can be the size of half of the open space below. Wood = the mez can be 1/3 of the open space below.

Re: T3 - Hines Dock Street Office Project
The design looks great! They are going to need some political help to get this through the Mpls code officials. They are really going to need to work the bonuses for type 4 heavy timber construction - 5 stories/65', sprinkler bonus can get you to 6 stories/85'. They already hate the 5 story wood bui...

Project looks nice and the area needed to change but it sad to see all the dumpy college houses go. This is going in directly across the street from my old house.
