Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
Many of MVTA's local routes have really low ridership. They went on a big local service expansion since the pandemic hit, and it is not surprising that some of those routes have been curtailed. As for the other opt-outs, Maple Grove and Plymouth never had their own local service (although Maple Gro...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
A little history lesson on the Dan Patch Line: With a north-south route that has/had several connections to east-west railroads and avoiding the busy rail yards in Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Dan Patch Line was quite successful with interchange traffic going from one major railroad to another maj...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
I think a lot of people here seem to be against it because it's maybe a step or two above uber or lift in terms of public transit. I'm not as opposed to it as others since the service area isn't huge (your not using it to get from Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis) and they could ideally use as a ...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
MVTA at their last board meeting has said they want to expand Connect by 350%. I guess you can kiss a huge chunk of their regular routes goodbye. It's beyond time for opt-outs to be banned. The only good opt-out is a non-existent opt-out. Banning opt-outs I'm definitely not opposed to, especially i...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Does anyone know how Metro Transit hiring is going? With all the frequency increases dependent on hiring, I wonder if it's more likely than not that those targets can be hit. Also, with the new transit sales tax replacing $300 - $400M of county contributions, what are the counties planning to do wi...

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
I found it, thank you "The 2023 Legislative session provided funding for arterial BRT corridor planning. With these resources, Metro Transit will begin updating the region’s arterial BRT system plan in late 2024 to identify the next corridors after H Line. It is expected that $25 million in fed...

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
Yeah, the obsession with killing the downtown hub-and-spoke in favor of a cartesian grid is truly baffling to me. You're benefiting hardly anybody, and hurting lots of people who do want to go downtown (or who would like to make a different connection there). The reason why Johnson to Cedar makes t...

Do you have a source for this?I think so, yeah. They've requested bonding money to plan and build the J, K, and L Lines, but no I.I expect they'll skip I?

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
The point is there's nothing between Northfield and Minneapolis/St. Paul that merits regional rail service. A suburban park and ride station, if necessary, could go somewhere on either route and serve SOTR just fine. Track between those two destinations is a means to an end to get from one place to...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
With the new underpass for 77th Street under Highway 77 open will the 540 routing be changed in December? Any other routes that will use the new underpass? IIRC that was the plan. One day I'd love to see a BRT from 77th street to the Knox avenue tunnel to American hop on 494 and go to the Southwest...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I think they are phasing it in, so tomorrow it will probably have extended hours Mon-Thurs. Since yesterday it said Mon-Tues til 8Very good news! I'm assuming they are working up to a uniform 8 pm close, but to me it's odd they extended the hours Mon-Wed, instead of Friday and Saturday.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Just wishing for Bright Line or another private company to run HSR doesn't mean it would make financial sense for a route between MSP and Chicago. The City Geek video showed that the corridors that are being pursued now Miami/ Orlando, Houston/ DFW, San Francisco/ Los Angeles, and Los Angeles/ Las ...

Re: MSP Airport
Not just businesses. I don't think the MAC would even entertain talking about closing STP, let alone taking the steps to plan for that capacity to be absorbed at other airports. At the bare minimum, I think you'd need another east side airport to be expanded to at least the size of Flying Cloud, po...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
City Geek on Youtube ran an analysis of the 10 U.S. rail corridors most ready for high speed rail awhile back. The MSP to Chicago didn't make the list due to lack of density and the significant distance of 400 miles. So, I doubt Bright Line or Amtrak will consider it, and the fact that a Rochester ...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
I'm still standing by the 394 trench as the transit hub. With a couple block cut and cover on N 3rd it would connect to the rail line across the river.HERC's days are numbered. That could be a nice location for an actual transit hub. Just sayin'

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
This might be a hot take but let me cook. Brightline probably won't really look at the route for another 10 years Target Field will be 23 years old at that time The Twins moved out of the Metrodome after 25 years and Metropolitan Stadium after 20. Target Field is nowhere near the state of the Metro...

Re: Nicollet Mall
It's not clear to me that signal priority would fix the 10mph speed limit, or buses stacking up behind a bus that's delayed to let a wheelchair user board because the serpentine curve that looks so nice on an aerial view makes it difficult or impossible to pass. But the next time I spend 10 minutes...

Signal priority could solve all of the operations issues on Nicollet Mall. Wake me up when Frey decides to close Washington Ave to cars in order to activate the street space.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
They could do it, but where would be a chunk of easily developable land near it?They could also build a stations near target field stations and connect to it. Many rail stations in Japan are like this, with multiple rail companies having their own section of a station to use.
