Re: Hines Office Project - (350 North Fifth Street)

As long as they are building over an open surface parking lot, I'll be happy.

Re: Smaller Scale High Density Housing.

"So I think the article is mostly useful as an indicator that we're building too big, if 2 of 3 featured "small" apartment projects are 40-some units." - Agreed. I'd love to see an environment where we could create row houses or small (say, 10 or less) unit apartment / condo buil...

Re: ye-olde Ayd Mill

Daily Traffic on Ayd Mill Road is pretty low, all things considered. I guess the argument someone would make is that it'd decrease traffic on 35E and in the neighborhood. Frankly, as someone who lives in the neighborhood, traffic really isn't all that bad. This appears to be another battle we're try...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)

It's cool to see up close how they're integrating the old parking garage into the new structure. I can't help but think with the increased intensification of this area (particularly this site) that the City should scale down the roads. A major road diet appears to be needed. I question downtown's l...

The 228 Tub Sale:

Good news is that it's a great deal. Bad news is that limited flavors are left. I have 2.6 gallons of Pumpkin if anyone is interested.

Re: 2124 Grand Ave

It's been approved, but a one-year development moratorium has been enacted in the "west Grand Ave". From my understanding, Cullen LLC was looking to develop a second similar style building on the same block. Neighbors, as anyone on this forum would have guessed, flipped out. Two things wor...

Re: Former Weisman Lake Calhoun lot

From the article: [Emphasis mine] "The group was prepared. Under the leadership of Robert Corrick, a retired banker and head of the neighborhood group's Land Use & Development Committee, it listed 12 criteria for any project. Some of the requirements seem obvious: the building should be nic...

There doesn't look like there is much going on at street level. I like the idea of development happening here. I think this area is ripe for development. Hopefully more developers will follow suit.

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

I think that would look awesome on the corner of 43rd and Upton. That's funny. I'm sure Linden Hills residents would love it. Tall, skinny buildings are all over Australia. In fact, because land parcels are so small, they are starting to become the norm. If Minneapolis were to replace the Boise bui...

Re: Mozaic

FYI the Federal money for Mozaic does need to be paid back - it was gap financing, not a grant. Yeah, it's basically a loan from the city. It needs to be paid back. I made that mistake on a blog post of mine and really got burned (e-mail from the developer). In anyone's defense who thought that was...

Re: Sears

Never been in the Sears, but it amazes me that a giant 4+ square block piece of parking lot was able to be built a block from the Capitol. It seems like a prime spot for redevelopment. Have there ever been plans? Sears, as a company, has to be hanging on by a thread lately. I'm thinking the site wi...

Re: East River Apartments

It's great to see this thing make progress. I thought the project was dead. I've been jogging by this lot since 2006 with my fingers crossed something would happen. I know there were a handful of neighborhood objects, but frankly, they should be lucky the open surface parking lot is going away - and...

Spent two great years living a block from this project. It's crazy how different Stadium Village is from when I first moved there in 2008. Getting off the bus by TCF Bank Stadium to go to Stub and Herb's it looks like there's a little skyline... Stadium Village is turning into Stadium Town ... and ...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

Hooray. Minneapolis tells a viable business, "We don't want you to provide jobs and a ton of tax revenue in our city." Get ready for this block to be essentially vacant for a while ... the Guerts family will not be happy with this outcome! Garfield, I think you're missing the bigger pictu...
