Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

There is many things to dislike about our streets, but honestly they are quite decent compared to a lot of other cities. Most of our streets have islands, curbs, sidewalks, crosswalks. Even MnDot will place these things in semi-rural areas on highways. In a lot of places, sidewalks don't exist on ma...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

There is an app for Android called "MyNexTrip Metro Transit" or something. It basically takes the NexTrip data and puts it into an Android interface. It also allows searching of bus stops by ID number. There are some shortcomings, but it is basically all that there is out there at this tim...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

The maps in this PDF are quite decent at showing the proposed bus changes. http://www.mvta.com/uploads/red_line_changes_proof_3.pdf The main difference is that only the 444 and the Red Line will travel to the Mall of America, and the other lines will be stubbed at Cedar Grove. A lot of the local rou...

Re: Shakopee Rail?

This line would be serving a different market. Commuters from Shakopee, Edina, Bloomington to Minneapolis and St Paul. Reverse commuters to Edina and Normandale Lake. The reason 35W is BRT is because it runs in a freeway alignment. Why would you spend money ripping apart the freeway for trains when ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

No dedicated lanes are being proposed for Nicollet-Central. Why would we throw money at something that will be just as slow as a bus? The bus improvements aren't really too expensive. Building bus bulbs every few blocks would be quite cheap. A nice bus shelter probably costs around $5-10K, printing ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

I wish they would just go with underground parking, but I suppose that would be too expensive. All my most detested buildings are those with the parking ramp on the lower floors. McGladery (sic) Plaza, Residence Inn, Northstar Center, Metro Apartments, and Centre Village basically make up the list o...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

The reason for separation of the light rail and freight rail in the Kenilworth corridor is whether the bicycle trail will be lost or not. Basically it's a pick two of three thing. As for the OMF, I think it is better to have it in Eden Prairie or Minnetonka from an operational standpoint. Trains wou...

Re: Green Line (Central)

The most logical solution would be to build the tunnel on another street, such as 6th or 7th. Why would we tunnel on 5th? It seems like it would be possible to integrate the underground stations into the Government Center's lower level as well as Gaviidae and Wells Fargo. I think that some sort of e...

An underground alignment for rail transit was considered from the first plans in 1967 through the early 90s.

Re: Northstar

The Dan Patch line has a bridge over the UP line, so a parallel track from the river bridge to the UP line would need to be built. It actually seems like it would be quite easy to do. The UP line does have quite a few industrial customers (Port of Savage, etc), so some sidings might need to be built...

Re: Northstar

The line south of the Minnesota River is in disrepair, and would probably need a substantial rebuilding. I like the idea of running Dan Patch to Shakopee and Mankato, though.

Re: Arterial Transit Corridor Study ("rapid bus")

I voted for Go and Direct, although I would really like to see a Rapid. I'm not a big fan of Select, but I guess it isn't a big deal. In other news, the TPP will be amended soon to include a Penn Ave line as well as an extension of the Chicago line along Fremont-Emerson. http://councilmeetings.metc....

Re: Green Line (Central)

The 94 will be optimized to run on 6th/7th in Minneapolis and 5th/6th in Saint Paul. Combined with the elimination of the Capitol and Snelling stops, a 94 run should take 20-25 minutes at the most in good traffic conditions. Personally, I would choose the 94 over the light rail if I had to go betwee...

Re: More light rail stops

The original plans from the 80's called for a few more stops, namely 26th St, 35th St, 42nd St, 54th St, and one by the Delta Hangar north of 494. Quite frankly, I don't think those stops are needed as there are no crosstown buses on those streets, and the travel time from Nicollet to MOA is 35 minu...

Re: Hwy 100

I've thought some kind of bus route along 100 would be a good idea. The main issue I guess would be in SLP and Edina where the bus would require some odd routings along an incoherent street network to serve all the logical nodes (West End, Minnetonka Bl, 36th & Wooddale, Park Nicollet, Eden/Vern...

Re: Midtown Corridor

Stop spacing is going to be 1/2-3/4 mile, which is about as local as you can get for a rail service. Many people using the 21 will move over to a greenway line. It won't replace the local buses on Lake St, but it will certainly reduce demand for them.
