Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Oh man. Also, I was scrolling through that link and saw schematics showing a recreated Hall's Island. I thought the DNR (I think it was them) laughed the Parks Board under the table about that, saying no way in hell are they going to be dumping fill and messing around with the river.

Re: Downtown East LRT Ped Bridge & Stadium Plaza (MSFA Block
Why don't they just build a giant conveyor belt ramp like you see next to a plane's luggage hold at the airport? Game-goers could waddle/stumble up to it, a Vikings Handler tosses them onto the moving belt, and up and into the stadium they go. /snark

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Eh, I don't know. I think North Star, for sure the Baker Center block, and maybe into TCF is pretty cluster-effy. I've seen fairly obvious tourists and Twins fans bumbling and turning around in this stretch. And of course, that's where it's the oldest and most narrow. It seems the skyways west of Ni...

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
I guess I'm confused at to what John is trying to express. On the one hand, I'm hearing taller, place-making, etc., and then the St. Anthony Historic District is mentioned with more brick. I personally would like a James Dayton MacPhail/Bookman Stacks-ish edifice here, especially at this height.

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
Yeah, this was the last chance to excite people coming across the bridge. The only thing left now is dancing showgirls and a tuxedoed guy handing out I ♥ MPLS pins and York peppermint patties to cars at the stoplight by the Federal Reserve.

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
There isn't any aggressive nightlife in this area. These townhouses do have a 1st Ave. address, but the bar mess doesn't cross Washington really. Save maybe for The Tangiers (I've only been twice, seemed controlled enough). Otherwise, you have $50k wedding reception guests from Aria, Jetset and Marv...

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
Take another look at the parcel. What else are you going to put on that narrow parking lot? A busy Whole Foods and Nightlife stumbling by and/or up to your door? I think that's some strange projection.

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
I like it. Better than 222, but still ties-in in a neighborly way. I'm kinda bummed that probably every tree on this block will be trashed, but such is the life in Mpls. As for the colors maybe appearing drab in winter, I'd say I'm welcoming this material/color scheme. Enough brown and warmth, it ge...

Re: Minneapolis Post Office
First Street between Hennepin and Third Avenue just might be one of the most drab streets downtown. True, but that's exactly where this market would be and would probably turn it around quite a bit. And I don't get the whole mental barrier thing. The post office is in the center of four burgeoning ...

Re: 10th & Marquette Development
...Ok - not a fan of the wig place, but if the building was renovated as is - hopefully would attract some new tenants and keep some of the existing. As for the design - not a fan of the color as presented, nor it's flat facade, but it's different which is good in some ways. Ok, what type of retail...

“What we’re really doing is triggering memories,” said Council Member Jacob Frey, whose ward 3 includes the park. “In 10 years time, I want to talk to ... someone who says, ‘You know, 10 years ago I was over on that bench making out furiously with your mother before you were born.’” Who would ...

I think it's this. It seems the new wave of downtown patrons aren't as interested in that scene anymore.and all the tap rooms around town?
To me it's an interesting change. Thoughts?

Re: 10th & Marquette Development
.Let's compile a list of realistic ways to make this development better, in a way that city staff, the Planning Commission, and elected officials can use that information to influence a better project outcome. 1. Fire the architects. I actually like the tower, but I'm a sucker for that stark, graph...
