Re: Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Clinic Expansion
I'm surprised that they want all of their parking in a single place. Right now they have ramps on either end of the complex, which feels more functional. I suppose the northern ramp has much better connections for people driving in on 52, 35W, and 94.

I know it will be decades, but I guess it's time to start lobbying for a bus tunnel under nicollet the next time it gets refreshed.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Amazing plan for the 1st Avenue South street reconstruction from Lake street to Grant street. Highlights include: 2 way cycle track included on the whole right of way. 11 foot buffer between road and bike traffic north of 94. Closing off 16th street east of 1st avenue. Curb cuts at all intersection...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Just a guess, but I'm going to say that they are using the vehicle they have available and if the service is successful they will consider getting a "better" suited vehicle in the future. Metro Transit isn't exactly flush with cash right now.

Re: Public Bathrooms
A plain parking lot wouldn't encourage people to stop the way a nicely landscaped area with restrooms does. If you're making a public safety argument, how does that not apply to available public restrooms? Also, there are plenty of places to pull off the freeway to take a break and use a private re...

Re: Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment
250 Fremont Ave N is back before the CPC and it's gotten significantly worse for reasons that I can't really understand. The new proposal has 24 fewer housing units and 135 more parking spaces. It's gone from something that was genuinely quite a progressive development in terms of mobility to somet...

Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
The project quoted above was approved, but then neighbors sued and won. The approvals were revoked and the land was sold. The new developer is now coming to the CPC with two different projects on two of the three lots that made up the original proposal (the corner lot, a shabby professional buildin...

https://www.concreteisbetter.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/40_X_I-394_Minn_0116RB.pdf This road grinding they did on 394 6 years ago seems to have reduced tire noise by 47% so why is this not something MNDot has talked about doing for 35w or highway 62? I know it's just a side effect of my tires, ...

I was just imagining how fantastic it would be if I could ride a bike from Hopkins all the way to France. Would it be a long bridge, or an epic undersea tunnel?

I am happy to report that less than 24 hours after the new signs warning drivers not to hit the new concrete medians protecting the bike lanes on Blaisdell went in, the sign on the south side of 35th has been hit and was bent over, blocking the pedestrian crossing. I went by again, just an hour late...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
The LRT tunnel that goes underneath the Lowry Hill tunnel would be a thing to behold. I always envisioned it being elevated north of Franklin avenue through the hennepin/Lyndale mess. Which would allow a Loving Park/Walker Station that would be impossible with a deep bore tunnel with a freeway abov...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
So it's assured that we wouldn't run into all kinds of issues trying to tunnel under a street in a dense urban area? We probably would, but it would also very likely be worth it considering the population density and demand for transit in Uptown. There would have been cost overruns either way. That...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Having a bus station at 38th should never have been linked to moving the freeway ramps. Bus stations serve communities in the immediate vicinity. Freeway ramps can destroy them. I live near the existing exit and the traffic that the ramps create is considerable. The new off-ramp to Lake relieved som...

Per the CPC packet, the project will have 532 car parking spaces (for 339k office square feet, 20.9k commercial square feet, 356 housing units, and 96 hotel units). The recently departed lot had 351 car parking spaces. So this project will add 181 parking spaces to downtown, but obviously add a gre...

I think we should use battery trains, but then restore the "historic" power lines from the streetcar that used to run along this route. It will be strictly decorative and entirely non-functional.

It honestly boggles my mind that the plan isn't to elevate the tracks leaving target field until they are at least across 7th and preferably further. That is a massive and busy intersection at a weird angle. Adding two train crossings (one to reach the median, and one to cross the intersection) is j...

I know this seems strange, but to me this picture looks like a miniature "old west" box canyon filled with ponderosa pines. I kind of wish that someone had put some toy cowboys and a tiny herd of cattle in there.

Part of me always hoped that the tracks for the red line would turn west after leaving the American Boulevard station, stop near IKEA and then continue down American Boulevard to serve that corridor. I recognize that the density there doesn't justify it yet, but that stretch of Bloomington that butt...

Gonna be hard to use the waste heat to heat Target Field then. More importantly, my understanding is that there's been interest in expanding the district heating system to more of the North Loop, but the power purchase agreement with Xcel means that they don't have any leftover steam capacity to do...
