Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
As I said I like Lileks more the most part but when you use satirical snark, especially in a newspaper which by definition is non-satirical, the satirical nature of a piece isn't always clear. And when you combine a satire with snark on somewhat regular basis you are going to come off as a jackass e...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
For the most part I think Lileks is pretty good but sometimes, and too often for my taste, he goes from snarky to being a jackass. This is one of those times.

Re: Seven Corners Gateway Site
Overall it's a rather unimpressive building but at the end of the day a six story stick built is exactly what I expected so I can't complain too much. The one change that needs to be made is to ditch the circle thing at the corner of 7th and Kellogg. It's going to be a huge physical and more importa...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
What you are describing sounds really similar to what the Detroit Red Wings are doing with there new arena. At it's core their new arena has the bowl in the center which is surrounded by a concourse covered by glass. And on the outside of the concourse are new multi-use buildings facing the the stre...

Re: RBC Plaza / Gaviidae II renovation
Any idea how big the parking ramp underneath is? Is it just under Gaviiae II or is it also under RBC Plaza? As a good portion of the tower basically covers the roof of Retail portion, why no skylight like the Gaviidae 1, the parking is under the whole property line. Thanks, I asked because I was wo...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
I remember saying this a year ago, but especially in light of the past six months NFL disasters, we may want to wait a minute before building a soccer specific stadium. Getting any public money for a soccar stadium when there are plenty in Blaine would be a blood bath. Especially if the "You k...

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
What part of the current proposal isn't short-sighted?I like your idea for Lord & Taylor. Better than a Walgreens.
Anyway, I would hope Opus would include a major retail component if they go with the residential towers. If not, that would be pretty short-sighted of them.

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
This is unbelievably disappointing news about the Ritz Block. Opus had the chance to do a once in a lifetime project and bring a huge amount of energy and life to a part of downtown that could use a little more. They could have built a tower, or towers, that defined the skyline for generations to co...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
The X has been in the process of replacing their outdoors marques over the past few weeks. I'm guessing they are wanting to get the work done by the time of the first preseason game on the 27th. Also they are replacing the jumbotron and the ribbon board in the arena this off season.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
A few thoughts on the Wilf proposal: 1: It looks dinky in between the stadium and the Wells Fargo building almost embarrassingly small. 2: I think that the Wilf proposal has some merits to it, the retail is great and having a TV studio in that location isn't a terrible thing either 3: I understand w...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I'm in on that. Twenty bucks on three birds. Even with conservation efforts, as much as 988 million birds die from crashing into windows each year in NA. A typical two-story office building that's not on a major migratory river route kills more birds than that... I'm sure you have a bunch of studie...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
1 things about the bird issue. 1. Anyone want to start a pool on how many dead birds will be found around the stadium each year? 2. While every group has a right to speak out and raise concerns and issues, thank you 1st amendment, that doesn't require that those concerns have to be addressed. I.E. t...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The scale of the building and the construction equipment is absolutely incredible. I don't think we truly understand the massive scale of the building yet, I think it could the dwarf the new Wells Fargo buildings . Also it looks like the next piece of the roof structure they are going to put in plac...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
I didn't see a specific thread for The Yard so I'll post this here, but the Park Board voted against running The Yard last night (Link to Strib write up below). With the Park Board essentially punting on building and running the I'm starting to think the park is in danger of falling apart unless som...

Re: 7 Corners Hardware
Article says that the hotel car drop off is on Eagle with a pedestrian entrance on 7th as well. Thank you I missed that, it will be interesting seeing how deal with the significant slope on Eagle St. honestly wasn't envisioning something this big. It will be nice to add more residents to the neighb...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
I pointed this out on page 1 or 2 but I think it's worth pointing out again but there is a decent chance that a soccer stadium won't be built on this location at all. There are some huge hurdles for the McGuire/Pohlad group to jump through before ground breaking happens. First the McGuire/Pohlad wou...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
In an ideal world the owner's of professional sport franchises would pay for 100% of a new stadium or upgrades to a stadium, I don't think anyone would argue that, but sadly we don't live in an ideal world. Which leaves us (meaning the public) having to foot part or all of the bill. At the end of th...
