Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
That map looks like it's trying to be the 1972 Vignelli subway map for NYC, but for Minneapolis skyways. It doesn't quite work as since you're on foot, walking your entire trip distance. So, "stylizing" the routes kills some much needed wayfinding details.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
That is some excellent math. Makes sense. From the rendering, I was thinkin: East/West/Top, in dividing the space up. It has to do with that carve out. The east part with the trees on top would be the apartments. The equal tower portion behind that is the hotel. And, the rest of the tower (square fo...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I thank mpb for the renderings; giving us perspective, massing, etc. I'm now not liking this Duvall proposal. It's like a giant 2008 flash drive up in the air. I kinda want to pay 40 million dollars to study a 5th proposal.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
From the renderings, my eye seems to be reading a slight parallelogram footprint. I'm sure it's rectangle, and the rendering perspective is creating the funky angles toward the top of the tower especially.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I like the Duval proposal, and I'm sure there'd be tweaks, but keeping with the sleek lines. I'm looking to see some creative ideas on how this development promotes the idea of leading people to the river. Right now, the Hennepin, Washington, Nicollet area is truly a nasty experience for pedestrians...

Re: Nye's Polonaise Room - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
A quote from a recently posted archived article about the Forum: “The case for the Forum building and the Nankin restaurant [which eventually relocated in the City Center complex and later closed] thus becomes a eulogy. The values of these places are intuitive more than rational, and they transcend ...

Re: The Paxon - (324 First Street North)
I kind of like the material they used. Stick built, but pretty decent on the outside. I am kind of confused on the blue lighting at night. Meanwhile, the crazy Velo, with colors all over the place, has delicate white light shining upon a blue tower cornice with nothing on it.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
This town cracks me up. City: "Build a thing!" Developer: "I'm on it!" City: "Great. Now, it needs to be over 20 stories tall, but (leans over the table in a darkly lit corner with a Bourbon and a wink) a preferable max of 56.99 stories." Developer: "So, beneath th...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
The only reason why a park or plaza is being discussed is because there might be a streetcar line through here. Making a park or plaza would make the station more appealing that just concrete and iron. I get that, but I just don't think this block/development/station should be a resting point. I th...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I don't think a park or plaza in the typical sense works well here. With Hennepin and Washington flanking it, it seems like a tense place for idle recreation. I would like to see that finger/linear park idea pushed. Like a greenway weaving through mixed use towers on Ritz and Nicollet blocks and the...

At night, both blue panels are downlit (autocorrect doesn't like that). So, I'm hoping some VELO letters are going up there, or why else punch that part of the building up, put blue panels and light it?

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)
Or even that giant vacant lot at Nicollet and 18th. Nicollet/Franklin wouldn't be much more convenient for someone on Clifton or Oak Grove than the Lund's. You can live in the area without a car and still get groceries, you just have to make a lot of small trips. But the thought of going grocery sh...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
LOL. I think a lot of it has to do with the previous proposals, which were much taller and dramatic. Our hopes were as high as the floor count. At this point, I'm pretty fine with it other than the chocolate brown metal siding that looks like Menards had a liquidation sale on pole barn materials. Th...

Re: Conrad Hotel in the Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
I'm curious how they'll deal with the skyway connections. Especially on the back going to the 15 Building. Currently it's a weird little diagonal connection.
