It's gotten bigger - they must have stabilized the roof and removed that whole wall. The original hole was probably about 1/3 or 1/4 that size.

Re: Local politics, shenanigans
The James I Rice West River Parkway is named after Jim Rice. Former state senator Jeff Hayden said Brian "took his first steps at the state capitol." These folks and the Barb Johnson machine were behind LaTrisha + the previous four years of slowly undermining CM Cunningham.

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
Yes, the Khan rule is only for council, which is why the charter amendment didn't reference park board. On that note, the school board has already voted to adopt the park board districts once they're set. I didn't know until now that they had the option to set different districts. So the 2022 school...

Lisa Bender is very good at her job as Council President. She both kept things together and kept things moving. The DSA council candidates do have significant political experience with labor unions and at the state and federal level. I understand that these are quite different than municipalities, b...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I don’t think Nezhad affected question 2 that much. It was the messaging after George Floyd that sunk it. The opposition used it to their advantage. I’m sure a large percentage of no voters went that way because they thought there would literally be no law enforcement if they voted yes. 100% The el...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
You've got it all backwards. On the wedgelive podcast, Sheila talked about having hot food and bathrooms for protesters. If the cops kill someone, a mayor who gets out on the streets and says "man this shit sucks doesn't it?" and provides actual resources is far more likely to deflate tens...

Yeah, Sheila is not going to abolish the police. She's too smart for that. Also abolishing the police requires everything else to be in place first, which is going to take generations, not just years.

All fine and valid points based on intuition, just absolutely not true. As I said Sheila literally has a degree from the Humphrey and has held a prestigious fellowship in policy analysis at UCLA, plus has run statewide health policy research projects. Her bachelors degree is in economics! Also her r...

What makes you say Sheila is a clown? Have you actually read her website? She has a masters degree in policy from the Humphrey, just like Kate... People trust Naomi Kritzer, who actually interviewed both Sheila and Kate for her piece. https://naomikritzer.com/2021/10/29/election-2021-minneapolis-may...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
The short answer is approval voting means you can vote for as many people you like. So you are voting equally for multiple people instead of ranking one above another. This seemed to work for St. Louis mayoral elections, but they still had two elections - an approval vote primary and a two-candidate...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
Too many candidates is partially why I think increasing ranking from 3 to 5 options is a good idea. If RCV is about voting your heart first and head second, only giving three options sort of defeats that purpose. For this year with maybe 3-4 "viable" mayoral candidates out of 17, having on...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
One thing I would like to see come from this election (besides campaign finance reform/actual enforcement of existing laws) is an expansion of Ranked Choice from 3 to 5 rankings. I'm not sure if that's through ordinance or something else. I'd also like Minneapolis to look at more forms of ranked cho...

Re: Nicollet-Lake Area - to Kmart...and beyond!
I remember reading years ago that CLIC put replacing the Nicollet bridge on a priorities list for something like 2021 or 2022. This was even before the city took control of the site. I don't know how that gets translated into an actual bridge replacement project for public works (do they do bridges ...

I don't live in the neighborhood but my read from friends and others who do is that nobody is particularly happy with Merwin in and have been wishing for its demise for ages.

Do you know if the church interested in expanding or just trying to get rid of the place? Not many places in the city Merwin can move to, wonder if they already have some sites in mind.

Re: L&H Station - Hennepin County - Minneapolis Public Schools site
The second apartment building, B-side, appears to be done (I've seen ads for rentals on FB) and they're finishing up the plaza next to the station. Anyone know if they'll start on another of the buildings? Or if the farmers market would move back to this space?

I don't think anyone has mentioned this project yet: http://www.southwestjournal.com/news/development/2016/04/sabathani-plans-senior-housing-project/, a senior housing project in the vacant area north of Sabathani Community Center. This is basically done and looks really good, fits the neighborhood...
