Re: Car Ownership
2 cars for 3 people (for a working/lower-middle class household in the inner suburbs): 2004 Ford Taurus - Father reverse-commutes to Lino Lakes 2004 Ford F-150 - Brother commutes to work (same city as home), and to Metro State We also have a 1998 Ford F-150, but we recently uninsured it because it's...

Re: "A Line" Snelling Arterial BRT
Since it's going to be running at a higher frequency than it is now, they might be focusing on using normal-sized buses since ridership might be more spread out, meaning less demand for articulated at the moment. Probably if the demand appears during certain time periods (like rush hour) once it's b...

Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
These projected population tables made the local city council where I live worried about if they could handle another 4,000 people by 2040. Honestly, I think Little Canada has quite a ton of space to fit another 4,000 within 30 years, because the northwest part is industrial and might be partly rede...

Re: Interstate 494
I'm fine with expansion, it's just in certain areas like this one, a MNPass lane versus a general purpose lane would be beneficial in my opinion. I think the freeway is still going to be clogged with the future AADT, but a MNPass lane would at least allow people the option for a faster commute for a...

Re: Interstate 494
I think if we are going to expand freeways around the metro, that they should be MnPass lanes at least. Even with 35E and the expansion project near my house. It gets bad, but honestly people are just impatient so at least instead of having just 4 clogged general purpose lanes, they are least giving...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
It's not that I am against anything nice in that area (I like DT Stillwater). It's that I am questioning if a $675 million freeway expansion to a exurban area was really a good investment. Mdcastle, thanks for the update on the AADT. l. When the Golden gate was built there wasn'tmuch residential out...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
The four-lane bridge, with its towering blufftop-to-blufftop design, is expected to stand as a monument to engineering, built to last 100 years and someday ferry as many as 100,000 vehicles a day between Washington County and western Wisconsin. Doesn't the I-94 bridge only get 80K in AADT now? Most...

Re: Rush Line Corridor
Why not just have the current and future park and rides along exits on 35E/35 serve both Metro Transit express routes plus casino shuttles to Hinckley (if they don't already) and leave LRT or streetcar plans for denser neighborhoods in the East Side with possible expansion to WBL/Maplewood for anoth...

Re: West Calhoun Apartments - (3118 West Lake Street)
They did a good job making the 11-story option the more attractive option.
I'm getting that their vibe was: "We can either try to build a slender and sleek mid-rise or a portly and plain low-rise, your choice."

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Continuing the subject of gentrification, there will probably be a premium to reside closely near an LRT station (just a guess). But what they can do for lower-income residents who can only afford properties farther away is to make sure to provide decent sidewalks and ample road space to bike to a s...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I'm not on an agenda. I just think the pros outweigh the cons of the project. UptownSport, I am quite capable of understanding the harm that this project has done to some people, but every project of this magnitude does have some sort of harm attached to it. Same for every other LRT expansion or fre...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
There's cons to everything and cities will always change as the years go by, sometimes for better or for worse. The solution to dealing with change is to make sure it is as beneficial for the general populace as it can be, and hopefully the Green Line will benefit the central cities. University will...

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail
The N-S corridor would definitely be the priority line, then we can just make Nicollet Mall into a bike/pedestrian mall. They could always leave enough room in the transfer station on Nicollet/5th for the possibility of the Green Line or any other W-E line going underground. That being said, the foc...
