Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
This whole situation really begs the question of why did Walz sign the bill with this provision in it? I know the Mpls delegation in the legislature had a lot of influence this past session, but this provision making it through final negotiations is pretty wild. Where were the County's lobbyists on ...

Heh, bad as that is, it seems less bad than ground-floor apartments downtown like at Edition, etc. Though this one on Como has the added badness of headlights shining right into apartment(s).

Weidner is buying all phases of the Elan Apartments from Greystar. Paying $111 million for 590 units, they're getting a massive bargain. Included in the portfolio are properties at 2836 Dupont Ave. S., 2828 Emerson Ave. S., and 2812 Emerson Ave. S. Those properties, which have a combined 387 units, ...

Re: Fare-Free Transit
In 2019 , Metro Transit took in about 26% of its operating budget in fares. I haven't seen a breakdown on how much it costs to maintain TVMs, etc, but I'm reasonably sure it's not anywhere near $110M a year. Hard to see how losing a quarter of their operating budget wouldn't result in pretty severe...

Even more frustrating with 10th Avenue is that it wouldn't have been too difficult to acquire a little more ROW along the N/NW side of the street prior to the couple of developments (1001 and 1010 3rd St N) that went in as recently as 2017-18.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Having worked at Metro Transit for a couple years a decade ago and being close to some folks in Service Development, I can't help but notice the stop consolidation and better bus route stuff is coinciding with several recent retirements of an old guard of route planners, and subsequent rise in the r...

If the wheels were already in motion to remove the 3rd/4th St North Loop viaducts, the 10th Ave segment of LRT could probably be elevated.

Not in Milwaukee proper, but the first-ring burb Wauwatosa has a proposal for 918(!) apartments to replace a former anchor store at at one of the region's more popular/successful regional malls (Mayfair). The City of Wauwatosa purchased the store and surrounding parking lots at auction and is provid...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I'd be curious if the Hawthorne Ramp could be torn down some day to be replaced by development that would help knit this area together a little better. But given that it was only built in 2000, probably with federal grants(?), that might complicate the issue. Lord knows there's no shortage of parkin...

I'd guess not. The area is guided to stay industrial in St. Paul's 2040 plan. With the light industrial market remaining red hot, I'll bet their current facility will be subleased in a heartbeat.

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
This comment could go in the aBRT thread or here, but I wonder if going with lettered rapid lines instead of numbers is going to seem like a good idea long-term, once we're in the middle of the alphabet. Instead of A-K (minus I), the first ten aBRT routes could have been labeled Routes 1-10. Obvious...

I considered that, but for a corporation the size of Wells Fargo, would they really hold a vacant property (and absorb the associated liability and holding costs, potentially for years) over the difference between getting $3 million or $5 million for this relatively small property? My gut says they ...

Just got a notice that the Wells Fargo on E Hennepin is closing in August. Anything cooking at that site? Seems like a great location to do something similar to Rafter. There was a story in the MSP Biz Journal last week on Wells Fargo's branch closures, confirming that 425 E. Hennepin closed on Aug...
