Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

St. Cloudians could also use Northstar to come down and shop at all the non-chain retail coming to Uptown.

UrbanMSP in the News

I thought about making this thread a while back after seeing our guy Grant quoted in an article, then again a few weeks ago when Nick was in a Curious Minnesota. Now I stumbled upon this article below. So, here we go: a thread to keep track of UrbanMSP posters in the news. Web site forum keeping tab...

Re: Transit Crime

Our leaders — who employ teams of problem-solvers with half-million-dollar advanced educations — are at a complete loss as to how to deal with people breaking the law in plain sight, in government-owned enclosed spaces covered in cameras, which travel on fixed routes at regular times between statio...

I'd imagine a big part of it is that people like to complain about change in general.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

What does a downtown population book actually look like, though? Presumably the highest demand for housing would be closer to the river or in places like Loring Park rather than in the CBD, especially if there’s less of a reason to “go downtown” with everyone working from home.

Are the single-family homes going to have unique architecture, or is one company going to build a bunch of similar-looking houses for that stretch?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Imprisoning every Colgate thief might not be the answer, but there’s something going on right now that’s eroded parts of our society, especially in big cities. Certain Democrats are so eager to point out statistics that crime rates really aren’t that different, but all the homeless encampments, repo...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I know I keep beating this drum, but chains serve a purpose, and losing even a mediocre chain like Rock Bottom without an immediate replacement in the works is bad. Hopefully another concept can move in soon.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

I’d think basketball has the most potential. A school like St. Thomas could very realistically make March Madness in any given year. Nobody pays attention to college hockey (besides the people who do).

The implication there is that the Vikings he cooked for were the actual Vikings and not the football team. Which would be kind of cool if so.

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

You’re focusing on H&M specifically. I’m talking about the bigger picture. Even in the unlikely scenario that H&M leaves and is replaced by a MartinPatrick3 equivalent, is that actually a good thing? If anything it’s doubling down on the retail trends we’re supposedly trying to move on from....

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

The point is that H&M is a popular and useful store for people in the demographic that has typically defined Uptown. If it leaves, what's replacing it? And how does that make Uptown a more appealing neighborhood? People keep talking about Uptown as being in a transition from destination retail t...
