Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Didn't read the whole article because I know how much KSTP loves to hate light rail, so the gist is there was a hiccup in which recently installed light rail track in the Kenilworth Corridor was one foot too close to the parallel freight track. https://kstp.com/5-investigates/new-problem-uncovered-...

Re: 2023-24 Minnesota Legislature
If I had to pick two provisions of the housing bill that are "must pass" items, and I could live without the rest of the bill, it would be: -capping residential parking requirements at 1 space/unit. -capping minimum lot area requirements. On capping minimum lot size, I'll be fine with what...

Re: Uber/Lyft
I don't think I'm making this up, but don't Uber and/or Lyft have a stated goal of eventually replacing most/all drivers with autonomous vehicles? I swear I remember reading that a while back, and it makes perfect sense. Now, the timeline for a full rollout of autonomous taxis is not what people tho...

Re: Dogwood Coffee : mixed use
Every time I drive down 'far east' Lake Street (east of 36th Ave?) I ponder why there isn't more happening. The household incomes in the surrounding area are stronger than other parts of Lake, but the population density is low. There are good bones in place with a grocery store and a nice variety of...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
MnDOT just completed a pretty major overhaul of the bridge in 2016, so less than 8 years ago. From a current-use perspective, I would guess it's at least another 10-15 years out from full replacement (on a normal schedule). The reported $13.8 million improvements included: -Removal and repair of bri...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues
I think I'd be ok with these streets remaining one-ways north of Lake Street, but south of Lake there is really no justification for keeping the one-way pair in place. Park Avenue shouldn't even be a county road south of Lake. I love the idea of returning Portland to two-way and turning Park into a ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Signing transit lines by identifying the terminus station is a common practice. I can practically hear the Chicago L announcements in my head: "This is a Red Line train to Howard". EB Green Line - currently just signed 'St. Paul', but it should probably be 'St. Paul Union Depot' WB Green L...

The Macy's Furniture redevelopment site plan has been updated: https://www.bettertogetheredina.org/sketch-plan/news_feed/7235-france-ave-sketch-plan-macy-s-furniture-store-site-2024. Re: Bloomington Central Station & South Loop Development
If Bloomington was spending general fund dollars to boost development in South Loop, that would be worthy of criticism. But that's not what's happening. None of the money squandered in South Loop actually comes from Bloomington homeowners. It's sequestered TIF money from other South Loop development...

It is a great idea to move the transit layover here from Gateway Ramp, but I suspect it won't happen because neither Metro Transit nor the City have asked for that.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Why am I just now noticing how insanely shortsighted it is that this almost $3B project did not include a trail along the portion of the route stretching from Shady Oak Station to at least Golden Triangle Station, or even better to the end of the line. I offer the ending at Golden Triangle because f...

Argh! The latest All Aboard MN newsletter says NLX is 7- 10 years away from operations, which sounds really far away. Apparently, the environmental impact statement is now out of date and needs to be redone and negotiations with BNSF restarted. . Finally, MNDOT hasn't yet submitted an application t...

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow
I'm guessing the politics on the Council are probably such that selling the property for private-sector reuse is out of the question, aside from something like a medical clinic serving low income folks, etc. So the staff are limited to fairly unimaginative reuses like moving government offices in. E...

Re: Nicollet Mall
If I could redo everything from scratch in a world with Nicollet as a bike/ped mall and no Marq2 infrastructure in place... The ideal spacing for the N-S bus routes while still getting close enough to the major destinations would be Hennepin (bus lanes) and 2nd Ave S (two-way transitway). Nicollet M...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
The number of people (including lawmakers!) who just want the new flag to be the loon seal on a blue background is shocking and disappointing. So, so many people have no sense for design. That, and the average person probably thinks that's what state flags are supposed to look like, and/or bias tow...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
It seems like a safe guess that the updated ridership numbers for the new route will land somewhere between the 18.5k and 26k cited above. The Washington & Plymouth station (if they juice the numbers enough) could very well end up being the reason this line is able to continue moving forward, in...

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
