Re: Park and Portland Avenues

I was thinking strictly a 'mover' for S Minneapolis, and a train on each street (going with traffic, if that needs to be said). It would seem easy to 'plop' down rail on these streets, and unobtrusive especially since one lane is essentially unused at the moment. Don't think the Nicollet Trolley lin...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues

Wonder about putting LRT on these two streets. On the surface, the design of these as thoroughfares begs for it.
I doubt they rebuilt 94 bridges to hold trains, tho. :(

But they haven’t committed to seeking a tax hike to pay for road and light-rail improvements.

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings

You have to wonder how much congestion is due to choice riders choosing not to wait (forever) at the frigid bus stop, or deciding to not depend on late buses to get to work on time.

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

Didn't mean to do 3x alignment argument thread.
That situation does instruct us that there's willingness for tunneling, but not for where most would think a tunnel would be.

I know it's hard to separate, isolate that tunnel from that larger SW argument that's become pretty emotional and polarized.

Coming North on 35W totally sucked last night. Not sure if it's always that way.

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

My guess is there's enough willingness to cram SW thru that they'd pay for it to be that North- South underground line if that's what it took.
Minneapolis would certainly then be 'on board!'

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

and I might start lobbying myself. Waited for a hi-freq 6 for over half an hour, then walked from main post office to MCTC and still waited for 8 minutes on way back. Lots of cold, dejected people.

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings

Driver (who people were being mean to because he was late :x ) told me he was crawling because he had slid for a block and it scared the living daylights out of him.
Buses use summer tires on drives, instead of 'drive' tires. They have straight ribs and offer no traction on slippery roads.

People could wait in warm, dry stations for trains that aren't negotiating stalled traffic today.

Re: 26th / 28th Streets in South Minneapolis

They are super-efficient. I wonder if they could be widened for better Uptown access, and lights timed to 35+MPH so they're even more efficient.

Re: Northstar

The article speaks of Northstar being extended as imminent- IIRC the video said 'years away'.
I only find that any extension is on 'Indefinite hold', no sight of an extension date.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

This seems un intuitive to me, just to ride a bicycle every new student or commuter needs to figure out what WTF a 'bike-box' is and what it's for.

They should've kept the tunnel option; much environmental impact- It gives everyone something to hate all along the line.

Walked across entire 'Triangle' twice today.

I saw one bicyclist!! (and again hundreds if not thousands of cars)

Re: The Virginia Triangle (Hennepin & Lyndale Bottleneck)

There isn't any problem. Not only can riders use Bryant, the dedicated bike path, a wide sidewalk on West side, carriers on buses, but can also ride down the traffic lane. My take is that's it's another 'invention of a problem' to advance the usual 'I hate cars' agenda. Just missed the 4 and the 6 s...

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

I'd rather not hear about car vs transit, the two aren't mutually exclusive. There's certainly a point that removing surface transit speeds up remaining traffic; most of us have seen bus 'jams' on Nicollet Mall, where only public transit is allowed. At the least, adding fleets of buses to a route wo...

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

There seems to be little interest in elevated systems. Does Minneapolis/St. Paul have density/ridership that would justify a big dig? Not really an elevated system, but I would be very much interested to see something on I-35W ROW (Yes, the Orange Line.) and on 394 ROW. Something like Chicago's Dan...

Re: Transit Crime

They probably are using the train to get away, and I'm sure some 'Riff-Raff' from Minneapolis do use pubic transit to rob homes in Small Town, MN.

So what?
Are one or two or even dozens of incidents even a 'mentionable' in light of the awesome operations of the Hiawatha line?

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

This probably deserves a new thread, but where do people think Minneapolis's (or St. Paul for that matter) first "real" tunnel for transit will be. Hennepin downtown to Uptown? 5th/6th street downtown and bury current lines?
