Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

I use that MicroCenter all the time and I'm in Stevens Square, but taking transit there would be ridiculous. It's an hour one-way at a minimum, 40 minutes of which is walking. What about my relatives in Edina (I know, lol)? It's either a 50 minute walk one-way, or a 1h 20m transit ride one-way (incl...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

Given the police's behavior captured not only on livestreams but also by the news media on live TV, I absolutely think ignoring calls to make a point is plausible.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

You can't just wave your hands and change how our cities have been built for the last 200 years. Using a bicycle as primary transportation in the suburbs isn't feasible. It could have been were our cities built around that idea, but they weren't. It would probably make sense to start taxing resident...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

I was watching the livestreams a lot during Wed/Thu/Fri and Lake was basically given to the arsonists. There was literally zero police or guard presence. It could have been a tactical choice, they could have been deployed elsewhere, or they may have realized they didn't have enough people and decide...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

Not totally excusing Frey for later in the week, but he did call for the Guard Wednesday around 5-7pm-ish according to reporting at the time and later on. I think what happened is that no one anticipated (obviously wrongly looking back, but even maybe at the time) that it would get that bad on Thurs...

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

MnDOT is discussing the idea of using flashing yellow arrows on all new signals regardless of if there's turn lanes, some outlaying districts are doing this.
I swear I saw this for the left turn signal from Washington Ave W turning to 3rd Ave S.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

I think a lot of the confusion—at least around the lakes—comes from some of this happening during and right after snow melt. Tons of peds were walking in the bike path because the ped path was still covered in snow/ice/puddles, so before and then during street closures the cyclists moved to the stre...

They will be screening all workers starting Monday, also. They were not doing that up until now.
This seems to be how South Korea really beat it, I think screening is going to be a big way that we start to reopen.

Re: 200 12th Ave S - Reuter Walton - 12 Stories / 130'

A decent chunk of the people we meet in the building have sold their home in the outer suburban ring to move to the city and I'd guess are used to having more control over neighbors via an HOA This reminds me of something that happened a couple years ago after a huge snowfall: I was snow blowing th...

Zoom's security problems were well-known before the pandemic, so it's not surprising it happened on that platform.

I'll dip my toe in and say that I've done Linux hosting for client sites for two decades and know PHP (but not phpBB specifically—I do Drupal and Laravel). I'd also be open to a conversation if it looks like streets.mn wants to offload the forums. It would be great to make improvements, but users ha...

Re: Role of Visitors and Spaces for them in Cities

I think part of it is that it's weird to get down there. Sort of like a highway overpass isn't pleasant to walk under, so it separates blocks on either side, if you're on foot there's really only three entrances and they're pretty far apart. And the middle one isn't super clear.

I don't see a need for any changes whatsoever tbh Edit: If you want to see an example of a good (imho) integration between long-running community forums and a blog, you could take a look at Ars Technica. Their forums (https://arstechnica.com/civis/) have been huge for over a decade, and they wanted ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Bender said lowering speed limits would also help guide future street renovations, such as lane widths and the timing of stop lights. This statement by Bender packs a huge punch... If this helps usher in 10' lanes and quicker signal cycles, this is much bigger and more impactful than just speeds. A...

I'm more concerned about the high propensity for drivers to neglect turning their lights on in precipitation or dark these days.
I feel like I used to see this once or twice per year, but now I see it once or twice per day.

I agree. The warm color is nice but it definitely doesn't look like a modern building.
