Re: Nicollet Mall
I go back and forth on whether it would be preferable to shift the future BRT routes (10/18) to 3rd or to Hennepin. Hennepin would have the advantage of already having BRT stations and thus seamless connections to the E Line, as well as still being within a block of Nicollet so it's not too much of ...

Re: Nicollet Mall
There was a joint presentation from Public Works and Metro Transit to the Council today on the legislative directive to study removing buses from Nicollet Mall. ( Report version ). Notably, there's a (soft?) deadline in play - Metro Transit needs to inform the FTA by April if there's going to be a c...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Looking at slide 28 of that presentation, the pink "Riverview Alignment" line continues past Union Depot station and off the edge of the map. I wonder if that's implying that the tracks would just continue down Kellogg and cut over on Lafayette to get into the newly expanded Lowertown OMF?...

Must just be that eastern building being demolished for now? Haven't been there for a while, but the BK, Caribou, and Kung Fu Tea are all still open according to their websites.

Guess they're prepping to get started on the East Gateway project. I had completely forgotten about it.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
My concern with the loon design isn't so much the similarity to the state lottery logo (that's also a state agency, so whatever) but the similarity to the privately owned MNUFC logo.

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)
Not effectively; the platform at TFS is only 400' long, the long-haul Amtrak trains need a 1200' platform to allow all the doors to open. They can get away with shorter platforms at less-used stations - if you go to Red Wing the conductors will make you sit in a specific coach because only a couple ...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)
I'm reasonably optimistic that Ramsey County will get their shit together if Amtrak is seriously threatening to leave, given how hard they've been trying to make people walk through SPUD whether it makes sense or not, like with the whole push to make the Gold Line end at the bus platforms there inst...

Looks like they got another 8,250 square feet leased. Missed it by that much. They have about 90 days to lease another 270,000 square feet to avoid foreclosure.
Good luck to them.

U.S. Bank is renewing its entire 440ksf lease at 800 Nicollet for ten more years, but leaving their space in Richfield and consolidating those employees to Hopkins and downtown.

Re: New Third Precinct Station
It's not free to have them operate out of a decaying office building in downtown either, though. The Public Service Center was already in rough shape, eventually it would need renovations to be a police station long-term.

Honestly don't care so much what happens to the interior of the building(s), but if the loggia and elevated walkway facing the river could be reopened (were they ever opened in the first place?), that would be huge.

Here's the resolution, and also Commissioner Fernando's statement. Seems like the County is fully aware of the implications of what the Legislature has required them to do, even if the Legislature doesn't seem to be.
We'll see what the report comes up with.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I'm unconvinced that adding half a dozen at-grade crossings and spending a pile of transit money on new freeway offramps and a bridge for car traffic is an improvement over the original Lyndale option.

Re: Salt Lake City
Wild. I'm assuming it's only at night, when the LRT isn't running? I know the NJ Transit River Line works like that, but that was DMUs being added to an existing freight line, not freight being added to an electrified LRT line.
