Solhem seems to do a generally good job of having handsome, if forgettable, modern buildings.
Not sure how this one will end up, but what I dislike about them is they seem to have the consistently worst interior layouts.

Re: Star Tribune
Kupchella sold BMTN years ago to Go Media. Last I knew, they were doing some minor reporting pieces, but it’s largely rip-and-rewrite stuff.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I've heard from someone who works at the Urban Outfitters that it isn't a particularly successful store, but corporate keeps it around for some reason. (That might be kinda speculative, though).

Re: Star Tribune
I would certainly love to bring the Strib more in line with other subscription pricing, though I've been paying the $14.99 per 4 weeks for years now -- mostly just because I want to support local journalism (I'd probably end up throwing whatever savings I got from a lower Strib price to other outlet...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
The Apple Store management can only guess at corporate plans. And they won’t muse about factual plans about them to the public. At best opinions. I doubt there are too many based on the traffic and waits in the stores that are open. The Uptown store may have been a mistake but that was pretty much ...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Kind of wild how one of (if the most) cohesive, urban space in Minneapolis in an area packing some of the highest density and near some of the wealthiest areas of town, has so many high-profile vacant spots. With the exception of Target, has there been a new retail (not service or food) tenant in th...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
I still wish they'd add more retail - unless I'm looking at it wrong, the only ground-floor retail is the restaurant space. The food and beverage cart under the viaducts is unique, but I am not sure how much of a draw it will be for anyone who isn't already in this building or T3.

Probably just the rendering, but they appear to be showing 14th with a protected bike lane. A little odd, since this is a fairly quiet street that uses advisory bike lanes (which I used on my commute and really don't mind).

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
I'm sure they'll end up putting an auto court and/or garage entrance on 5th, but why can we not expect them to put it elsewhere? There's already a curb cut to the parking lot on which they're building this on 3rd. It's a one way, yes, but that's no more inconvenient than the many parking garages dow...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
This looks like a great project, so I definitely hope they build it. Given that ESG mentions they're moving into it once it opens, I think it's pretty solidly a go, no? Only a few concerns with this: -I know it's unlikely, but now really would be a good time to talk about viaduct removal. -Really ho...

As a fan of Republic, I still mourn it leaving Uptown. Really wish there was something in that vicinity at least similar to it in vibe.

Re: Theater Garage Marquee Apartments - (Franklin & Lyndale)
I've definitely seen people on site recently, but I agree that it appears to be moving slow. (This is actually something I've noticed with several other projects recently as well - perhaps the construction worker shortage means less can get done in the same period of time it did just a few years ago).

That's probably true, though Manhattan had a drive-thru McDonald's until about 5 years ago. (It ended up being swallowed by the Hudson Yards development from the looks of it).

Noticed a sign around the construction site the other day that refers to this as Nico Apartments. Not sure if that's news.
Anyway, construction website up with some renders and a flyover video. http://yellowtreecorp.com/project/nico-apartments/

Re: State law: Drivers must stop for crossing pedestrians at marked crosswalks and at all intersections without crosswal
What would happen if a significant police presence were occasionally...present...solely to ticket this infraction? I suspect that would give the law some visibility. I believe St. Paul does this every year at strategic intersections. I know they did at one of the intersections downtown near Rice Pa...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
Echoing Matt’s comment on the Strib site, I don’t like the resignation to the Parkway being a commuter route east of Portland. I live right at the Parkway/Portland mess, and I want to see it calmed severely instead of allowed to stay a speedway. Figure out how to do meandering split one-ways from 3...
