Re: Physics and Nanotechnology Building
As for "a little green," the U is full of pointless little green spaces that exist solely to fulfill the suburban convention of the front lawn. They are typically not usable as open space. This may or may not end up as one of those spaces, it certainly is big enough to be functional. I do...

Re: Physics and Nanotechnology Building
So, I don't understand what the concern is here. Are you suggesting that the building should be bigger so that it fills up its whole site? It's very clear from the aerials that this building's depth in the N-S direction is being informed / dictated by the pattern of the Cass Gilbert plan on the mall...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments
Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I got yelled at for suggesting that the seven-story Vue project was incompatible with and would be damaging to its immediate (and historically significant) neighbors. But, that said, the northern of these two houses appears to be an easy throw-away. It a...

Re: (501 15th Avenue Southeast)
Well, there's what is required by the city zoning, and then there's what the developer feels the market will require. Two different things, as we're starting to see now that the city is reducing its requirements and even instituting some parking maximums. Remember that these are mostly four and thre...

Meaning that it gives you diarrhea? The drive thru is similiar to the drive thru at the White Castle up in NE. on Central.

Re: (501 15th Avenue Southeast)
Very interesting, and much better than I feared. When I read the address, I was sure that they were going to propose tearing down those cool old brick apartments.

Re: City Center
Thought this was in interesting tidbit from the article: The 583-room Marriott City Center is on the site, but only the land under the hotel is included in the deal. The Marriott's lease expires in 2036, and the hotel recently completed a $30 million renovation. That could be a tricky lease negotiat...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
How bout instead of a single beep, it does that riff from Funkytown? Edit: you know, bee-beep-boop-BEEP-boop, boo-boop-beep-boo-boop. Oh, yeah. I know. I'd cook up bogus excuses to ride the LRT if it did that. The ultimate in city branding -- sort of like the twangy banjo music on the Denver airpor...

I'm sure that they're all snazzy and new, but I think that I prefer the look of the old trains. They seemed more aerodynamic and fluid -- these ones feel a bit more boxy.

I don't really understand how Metro Mobility works, but at some point it seems like it would be cheaper to just pay for cabs for its users.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Here's the Hennepin County website with information on exactly how this thing works.
It appears that, with the help of some retaining walls, the new lanes will split right between the two flyover ramps at grade.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Yes it is in the Access Minneapolis plan and I think the MnDot Downtown Mpls Freeway Study. So, I guess that raises the question: do we think that this ramp is going to magically get funded in the next five years? It would be interesting to know how people are currently navigating this area, since ...

I've been wondering about that change to the 7th Street ramp -- has anybody seen this officially proposed anywhere? It feels (gradewise) that it could be achieved without too much gymnastics.
