Re: Alden Smith Renovation and Apartment Project
So happy to see this is still going forward. My own wish is that they would've included some type of space in the mansion that would be open to the public/community - bar/restaurant, etc.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
General question - do we know if the city is loosening up on minimum lot size requirements for developments? There was an article in Streets on this issue that prevents in-fill in neighborhoods where certain lots can't be developed because of this...doesn't make sense since obviously there used to b...

The Mpls/St. Paul Magazine has an updated listing of restaurants and local retailers that have closed. St. Croix downtown closed.

Re: University and Central Improvements
A BRT route seems what's needed - fewer stops, nicer stations, faster service.

Re: University and Central Improvements
I'll have to take more time to read up on this, and look at the areas. I myself used to drive on both Central and University quite a bit when I lived in MN. I noticed before I moved, they are been starting to do some landscaping in the medians along University once you get into the Columbia Heights/...

Re: Crime
What is so frustrating to me is that shootings/crime downtown continues in the same areas (4th Street/Hennepin Avenue downtown). They have a police station right on Fourth! You're telling me you can't patrol that area by foot or by car more often? Something also needs to be one about the loitering b...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Does anyone know how much one makes off of parking ramps? You would even that the ones like downtown that have long been paid for in terms of construction could lower prices, but I suppose it's a business and with properties taxes continually going up, etc....Sometimes I think the owners of with pa...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
The whole area would benefit if the parking ramp at 7 Points (fka Calhoun Square) would lower their parking prices. Same thing with the Mozaic ramp. They are priced higher ($12 max reached in 3 hours) than many downtown parking facilities' evening/weekend rates and they typically sit half empty eve...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Maybe I’m missing something, but the idea that Uptown is going to transform to a retail district catered toward small, independent, neighborhood businesses doesn’t make sense. Uptown is a shopping mall surrounded by new, high-priced apartments. It’s basically the template for the opposite type of r...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
This place seemed to be on borrowed time even before this year. It was really hot 15 or so years ago, but it struck me as more about drinks and the scene rather than the food, which was better elsewhere (and probably cheaper to boot). I'd bet that many people who loved it in its prime haven't been ...

At this point - anything is better than nothing! Since Holidazzle is going to be virtual - wonder if they will just use their lights. Really would love the city come up with something unique for Nicollet. Utilize the banner light posts - attach some cool lighted decorations...perhaps inspired by the...

They requested SHPO tax credits last fall and received them this spring: https://mn.gov/admin/assets/CLG%20and%20SRB_Combined%20Nomination_tcm36-419687.pdf They had long been subdivided into smaller units- but lots of grand details from the 1893 layout still intact. https://mn.gov/admin/assets/CLG%...

Re: Lakeland Floral Building
Thanks for the updates. It's one of my favorite buildings yet to be redeveloped/restored. Yes - I agree - too bad about the parking. Would have been nice to perhaps made it a parklet with outdoor dining. One thing that's cool here in Austin are food truck parks. I would love to see some created in M...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
It feels that the retail developments on Hennepin and Lake and the last redevelopment of Calhoun Square were aimed at trying to imitate and compete with 50th and France. Which is quite difficult given that even though that area is a lot less dense is more uniformly wealthy. Additionally, the City o...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Uptown has the B and E lines coming along, and SWLRT nearby (via the B line). Things will be fine. The tall buildings are also good/needed. More transit and density will help retail in uptown. Sorry but that argument keeps being made. Build it and they will come. With all the new apartments/condos ...

Re: Austin, Texas
Also - housing is super expensive. Housing still consists mostly of single-family homes, not a lot of condos, etc. Starting to build more. Not even a lot of older apartment stock. The Twin Cities are definitely more "urban" and dense.

Traffic sucks, and with the exception of downtown and several neighborhoods, not super walkable. Definitely ...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I do think retail is just changing in uptown and many of the landlords need to understand this or else it will kill the area. The old lamp store off lake st was leased up in a few months after closing. It is now three smaller shops vs the victoria secrets that has been empty for what 3 years now? H...

Old Walgreens on Nicollet
Does anyone have further news about what is going to be done with the old Walgreens on Nicollet. Someone finally bought it. I think a new Apple Store in this location could work.
