Vikings Stadium Miscellaneous Discussion
Re: Vikings Stadium
Lots of plugs for Lucas Oil Stadium.....
Re: Vikings Stadium
Underwhelmed. Maybe I'll learn to love it??
Re: Vikings Stadium
my only worry is the half of the roof that is solid... will it just be a gigantic white thing? How will that look from the north?

Re: Vikings Stadium
My first reaction is that it looks like a giant 1960s modernist suburban church. Not sure how I feel about that.

Plenty of pictures up now. Someone else will have to do the image gallery upload, I'm not on here enough to know how.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I realize these are preliminary drawings, but the green space is horrible in these renderings - hopefully all that surrounding concrete will get worked out.
The day Gopher baseball sells out the dome is the day I win the Powerball : ).
Btw, the damn thing reminds me of the UofMN alumni center.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I flat out love it. Much better than I thought.
Re: Vikings Stadium
Tough crowd in here. I think it's very cool.
Re: Vikings Stadium
I couldn't catch everything they said about the brief park moment: did they propose more or less breaking of the street grid than we had anticipated?
Re: Vikings Stadium
Maybe it will be better when it is built but the more I look at these renderings, the more worried I become. When Target Field's renderings were released it was obvious that it was going to be an iconic stadium, but I am not feeling this one. It is inelegant.
Re: Vikings Stadium
Better than I expected. The architect did his homework with its indigenous quality. It says "Minnesota" and is unique. Striking and iconic, but not garish or over the top. Works well on multiple levels. You can't ask for anything more.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Looking at image 4 of 32 in the image gallery, they must have mis-aligned the street grid for this rendering, right? It shows 4th Street aligned with the giant window, but it should really be 5th, I think.
Re: Vikings Stadium
The more I examine the images the better I like it. For such a massive building there is some grace to the elevations and I like how it dances on the site rather than plopping down on it. And to have Tom Fisher actually like it - that's saying a lot.
I'm surprised at the stats - Largest glass roof in the world, largest pivoting glass doors in the world.

he he....my thoughts exactly...I used to go to one of these as a kid....I thought it was ugly in 1981, and still do.....My first reaction is that it looks like a giant 1960s modernist suburban church. Not sure how I feel about that.
