Re: Star Tribune Blocks
How does this help the U? The only way i see that happening is if they completely redo washington or cover up 35w.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Do you think the tailgating Vikings fans will riot over this park and loss of surface lots???

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Baby steps... no TIF, no public subsidy for residential/office/etc. Sounds like it was a requirement for the city to provide as part of the Vikings stadium? Who knows. I totally agree that we should stop this ($65 million!?), but it also sounds like the city is going to use revenue to cover the bonding for the parking and Ryan will backfill shortcoming in the first 10 years? This encourages Minneapolis to charge market rates.Did anyone else notice $65 million in publicly funded parking? FAIL!
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
The article seemed a little unclear about how much of the city's $65 million commitment goes to the park vs. the ramp...
I love that they've got what appears to be a 6-9 story apartment building in front of the ramp on 4th. If they manage to get active retail uses and good facades all along 4th there, I think I can forgive them for the ramp and the major skyway expansion.

This is a really good deal for the city - Ryan is covering the bond payment shortfalls for the first 10 years.

wow, this is really bold. I share concerns about closing off Park and Portland; they are major arteries. But, it is hard for me to hate on a large scale park.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Couldn't they have photo shopped the HKS stadium into their renderings? C'mon

Then shouldn't it come out of what the city is paying for the stadium?Sounds like it was a requirement for the city to provide as part of the Vikings stadium? Who knows.Did anyone else notice $65 million in publicly funded parking? FAIL!

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Can the council members and mayor stop saying the stadium was the jump-starter for this? There's been development on Washington for quite some time, the Strib leaving when they saw their land finally being valuable is the catalyst. The stadium didn't do this since there already IS a stadium on that exact site.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
It will be interesting to see what happens as a result. I think 3rd, 4th, and 5th Aves, as well as Washington, will suffer big time. Perhaps the result will be an immediate neighborhood with much calmer streets-- perhaps more inviting to other residential development?wow, this is really bold. I share concerns about closing off Park and Portland; they are major arteries. But, it is hard for me to hate on a large scale park.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
their land is more valuable because of the stadium. this isn't the metrodome. this isn't the late 70's.

Which is exactly why Washington needs to not be a 6+ lane car sewer. It will be interesting to see what happens as a result. And if they're Hawkeye fans they might get it on in a public restroom"All the things the Viking fans do"; so, get wasted? lol.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Sounds like the park will become the new tailgating area. Look up "the grove" at Ole Miss University- they do tailgating in a park. It always looked so cool

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Anyone notice that the renderings show a faceless building at the SE corner of Park and 5th Street?

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
How does this negatively effect Washington? 3rd and 4th Streets are remaining open.
