Just saw an email that HCMC is opening a clinic and pharmacy in North Loop's TractorWorks building (800 Washington Ave N).

Nice to see more services trickling to that side of the neighborhood.
That's great. Any idea where in the building? There is at least one large empty street-level space on Washington ... that would seem to be a good spot!

Not at the 19 Bar. :)

Stamps... I think I've hear stories about those. So what I think I'm hearing is that this ATM is some kind of retro dispensing machine? If so, can I buy vinyl's there too?

ironically, ever since remote check deposit apps became the thing, I'm writing more checks than ever. Temporary, I'm sure, but kinda funny.

To clarify, their new ownership is leasing 110k sf in Fridley, I'm sure their what 4 buildings in mpls are far larger than that.

It plans to move inventory from the 70-year-old paper company's North Loop operations to Fridley
Maybe they'll keep an office around, but.

Fridley sounds like a good place for paper inventory.

Acme Comedy Club saying they will have to leave current location or close due to loss of surface parking across the street:
http://www.citypages.com/arts/acme-come ... nt-8297980

Before people jump on the bandwagon bashing the owner for parking barking, I actually think he is right and agree that they should move. I have always thought this was a strange, out-of-the-way location for our region's preeminent comedy venue. It would be quite difficult to operate a destination venue like Acme without ample parking nearby for the vast majority of your customers. I'm not saying parking should be free or anything, just agreeing with the owner that a regional draw like Acme needs ample parking supply. It should be more centrally located downtown, with greater transit options and limitless parking garages nearby.

These far off corners* of the North Loop kind of all have the same problem - there is a lack of parking available to the public. The supply is too low, regardless of price.

I'll actually go a step further and say that I don't think North 1st Street & 8th Avenue is a good location for commercial space at all. It's pretty remote and difficult to access from the center of gravity in North Loop, due to the superblocks, distance from other stuff, etc. I'd be totally fine if the commercial space on North 1st transitioned into office uses, residential lobby space, etc.

So where should Acme Comedy go? I vote for somewhere on Hennepin or a warehouse district building on 1st Ave.

It's worth noting that the proposal for 721 N 1st Street includes a bunch of extra parking stalls to replace the lost parking lot - 224 parking stalls for a building with 124 units. And only half of the total parking lot would be developed - the eastern half, with about 150 stalls, would remain until someone figures out how to use that space. Those 2 options - plus remarkably low-priced meters - seem just fine for a venue with a capacity of 275.

I also happen to be a big fan of this quirky part of 1st Street. Along with the Opera Center and Lab Theater, Acme is nestled into an active part of the North Loop that stays busy while avoiding the feel of a programmed 'entertainment district'.

This is kind of a weird spot...urban, but very quiet. I had long hoped that this last parking parcel in the area would become a mixed use development with some service retail for the area and maybe some public underground spots. It just has kind of an odd feel to me over there...the residential buildings feel too big to just be a residential area with no activity on the street. Can't quite seem to describe what I mean exactly.
