The now demolished Walgreen's on east lake st was a good example of chain store actually embracing storefront windows. There were no shelves against them and you could actually see products and customers inside.
Turned out to be good for ingress and egress, as I observed the day before it burned...

Sign in the window of the Dollar General says it’ll be open until 8, which seems a bit early, but that’s later than Target’s current closing time.
