Just as I was hoping they are putting in a nice green space with fairly large trees behend the building( where the other building was demolishied right up to the handicraft building). Though it isn't public of course, it really helps soften the vew looking down 10th street, makes it look much more inviting for pedestrians....as opposed to harsh concrete. The awnings will help as well.

Scaffolding came down today, red awnings install, I think it looks much better than what has been there for years. They installed a giant folding garage door to the back which opens to a tree lined patio. I would love to see the inside.

The windows are beautiful as they rise two stories on all sides with clear glass. The red awnings look great. Exactly how buildings with Nicollet Mall frontage should look. The irony is there will be no retail here! lol.

Thanks for posting the pics! Definitely looks better than before. Still - I'll miss having retail on this block. Also - hopefully Target doesn't intend to keep the milky white over the street level windows.

The facades were still covered up on the exterior when I went by on Thursday, so I'm sure they've still got a lot to do inside.

Oh, I see the lovely multi-paned windows are gone.

Perhaps it just my bias against the project but I think the awnings look like they don't visually fit. It looks like the windows are one mega window with an awning halfway up! Also wish they could have splurged and bought the WHOLE awning with the side fabric too! ...Although I hate to be positive on this project but the building does look very nice (excluding the awnings)

Also I wonder if they will have security at this location. You know to keep the elderly hard of seeing women who are convinced they can fill there prescription at this CVS location at bay.

That is where the awning is supposed to be. The upper portion of windows were for light and ventilation and were usually opaque glass while the lower portion is clear for displays and shaded for shoppers.

yes, I understand the function for placing them there but they don't look like they FIT well into the building... perhaps its because there is no side piece to the awnings. Also keep in mind there will be no traditional displays in this gym/meeting room for Target employee's. perhaps it's because they are sticking "modern awnings" on a very old style building. Either way it appears silly like when you put on a silly hat! Not ugly or outrageous just silly looking...

and of course I had to Google it

Target is spending over $15 M to renovate this building with the intent to tear it down in 5-7 years. I believe they are talking to WCCO about acquiring their building/land and building another office tower on the site, beginning sometime around 2018-2019.

Sounds like they are also going to be adding a pharmacy & restrooms to the downtown store later this year.

Indeed it does, on the second floor. Maybe they're adding a clinic, or does it already have one of those too?

Maybe we should slow down and ask who Jeff is and where he is getting his information?

I somehow don't see WCCO leaving their unique building on Nicollet Mall. And the Target store downtown already has a pharmacy and restrooms.

Yes, it has a clinic too. Maybe they're remodeling these areas? Seems odd though.

If they get paid enough money they might.

I just heard that construction work would be starting on the downtown Target store (specifically "pharmacy & restrooms") within the next few months. Must be be remodeling.

Ok, so they are remodeling the pharmacy and restrooms? Do you have a source for the supposed new Target tower beginning in 6 or 7 years?
