Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Oh, I've seen people get pretty worked up over pizza. Best stand back if you ever get a Chicagoan and a New Yorker discussing it.

Bummer.
In reality, though, it was just too expensive. I ate there a few times and loved it, but was always shocked when the bill came. I hope that doesn't mean this will have to go the way of Union and turn into a sportz bar. but I don't see another high-end concept working here. How about an ACTUAL cafeteria? Reasonable lunches, good brunches and slightly elevated dinners?

It's kind of amazing, that despite downtown being about 10 minutes away by train for me, it never occurs to me to go downtown for food. Not sure if that's a problem with me, or with downtown dining, or a little bit of both.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Well, that explains why they didn't set up a patio. With the mall being under construction, that probably could've done well for them. There is a nice patio space there.

Went to the new Jefe a few times now on Main St. They opened a few days ago. Great atmosphere. I had the guac and tacos. I like the place. I hope they last longer than a year.

So it appears Rojo in the North Loop is already closed (formerly Shag Sushi, same owners).
Its be great if some good Mexican went in that space.

Nice! I won the bet I made that it wouldn't make it through the summer. Hopefully new owners can bring a different level of concept into the space at some point. There's strong demand for more casual dining (Freehouse, Red Cow, etc.) in the North Loop.So it appears Rojo in the North Loop is already closed (formerly Shag Sushi, same owners).

And I agree, it'd be fantastic if some good Mexican could find a home in the neighborhood.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I don't think a good Mexican restaurant could afford North Loop rents nowadays. They tend to be in less expensive areas.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
It's possible the same parent company of Shag/Rojo still holds the lease, so we may be getting something similar as far as quality goes....Hopefully new owners can bring a different level of concept into the space at some point. I think the Nic construction is a really good time to exit, when you're feeling like you are almost done or want to move on. Just like with Vincent. Ichiban used to be cool and kitschy...but it isn't anymore. Seems like the owner hasn't put any money into the place for many many years...

My 1980's child self loved Ichiban.

And that space is such a good development opportunity!

Did Cityworks close already? Walking by just now the seem closed...though I wasn't close enough to see if there was a sign about a special circumstance or anything.
