Looks like DiNokos is already open at the foot of the Haaf ramp. Probably a better location for their business, but those of us in far South Mpls will sure miss them. At least we still have Parkway and Fat's.

A new restaurant called Hen House Eatery is planned to take the place of Peter's Grill, which closed is June after nearly 100 years in the Baker Center.

It appears that the skyway location (Baker Center) of Sawatdee has closed. Sign is down and plastic over the windows.

I can confirm this. However, I saw a crew working in there today as well. This prime corner location is sure to open for business again soon.

That's good news! That was a really big, visible empty space. I hope they try to keep some of the old Peter's decor.

Oh no, it was all for sale on Craigslist, currently be dismantled by Architectural Antiques. It was your choice of a booth or a horseshoe counter with stools for $1000. Expect to pay $3000+ at AA in a few months.

Damn it, I did not. It's really Mario?

Edit, It appears that Andrea is the name of Mario's brother, according to the website and a google search of the pizza joint. I'm pretty sure it's still Andrea who works at the highland court pizza spot.

Huh. I swear I read somewhere the place was named after Mario's wife. Thanks for the correction!

MaisonDarras is moving into the old Sawatdee in the Baker Building. There was a sign on the window today and their Facebook page has some pictures of the inside: https://www.facebook.com/maisondarras

Couple of notes:

MaisonDarras now has their sign up at the old Sawatdee space

Down the hall from Sawatdee the sushi place (Sushi Do if I remember correctly) run by a cute tiny Japanese man has closed. Possibly competition from the new sushi place in IDS?

The salad bar in City Center has opened this week. Passed its skyway outpost today during lunch and there was a line about 4-8 people deep.

I take it D Brians does not fit into the Plaza VII skyway anymore with the Blu on the way!

Downtown Diner has closed for remodeling, and the (long-shuttered) convenience store next door is being decimated inside. I think they're gonna re-emerge as one. Also, the Facebook page (under the new "Sal's" brand):

So one shitty storefront gobbled up another shitty storefront to become one mega shitty storefront. Will they leave the charming plywood walls?

If they remodel both spaces this could be great. Even just a little effort could go a long way. I like it!

What ever happened to the major overhaul this building was to get? Wasn't there some modernist facade planned for the entire corner? I'm pretty sure this was a topic (with pix) on Minnescraper IIRC.

I'd be amazed if you could sell any worse substance and call it pizza a mere two blocks from Luce. Guess it demonstrates the will of drunk people to immediately eat something greasy that is not normally edible when sober.

Day Block looks pretty intriguing. They have an all day happy hour on Sunday that looks worth the trip.

Next UrbanMSP/streets.mn happy hour in Downtown East? Day Block or Di Noko's would be great.
