Vikings Stadium Miscellaneous Discussion
Re: Vikings Stadium
Re: Vikings Stadium
There are many (myself included) who have the desire to attend major sporting events but lack the cash. For us, the MLS is a great alternative. Here are the average ticket prices:
NFL - $113
NHL - $57
NBA - $48
MLB - $27
MLS - $26

Re: Vikings Stadium
Oh. Man. I am SO happy for HKS right now. That is one big blocky terd. Did they even want the job? I'd love to see Populous' proposal.
Re: Vikings Stadium
A lot of work was put into that. Way more than HKS put into the bid, presumably.
I'd also love to see what Populous and AECOM brought to the table.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I'm sure that they did a lot of work, no doubt, but they didn't even touch what they should have known their clients wanted.
Re: Vikings Stadium
It's basically Lucas Oil Field with a "modern" rather than warehouse exterior.
Re: Vikings Stadium
I don't mean they should have gotten the job. I just think it's funny HKS produced a few fantasy renderings and pointed to their horribly functioning roof in Milwaukee and landed it.I'm sure that they did a lot of work, no doubt, but they didn't even touch what they should have known their clients wanted.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Oh. Come on. You think "not that awful" is acceptable for a billion dollars? When you compare the two ideas/concepts which is going to represent Minneapolis better for longer, I don't think there is any comparison. It's really not that awful.
Re: Vikings Stadium
Yup. Plus, I can't think of many things worse than the covered plaza concept for a downtown location: can you say creepy, poorly-lit deadzone? It's basically Lucas Oil Field with a "modern" rather than warehouse exterior.
Re: Vikings Stadium
I think the problem with acceptance of soccer is the clock counts up rather than down and that makes little sense here in the US where all other games count down and the game is over when the clock runs out of time. also time on the clock is unofficial and the official time is kept in the official's watch, unknown to the even the players. is all of this true? i don't watch soccer much but this is what i have heard and read. changing these two issues could improve acceptance and growth.Disagree I think in 10 years of so, when this could happen, soccer will have a huge surge in popularity. I have many friends who love it, and there is a huge push for the US to start having more pro-soccer. It's ever growing.
Re: Vikings Stadium
i love soccer too but enthusiasts have been saying for 30 years that in time it will become extremely popular. in the U.S. it's a niche sport at the professional level, like hockey. nothing wrong with that.
and it's interesting we are builing this hulking new stadium at a time when soccer has moved to smaller more intimate soccer specific venues. also the NCAA is looking to site future final fours at arenas, moving away from domed stadiums.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Mullen, do you have any evidence that the NCAA is moving away from domed stadiums? This just seems like a horrible idea on their part. Have an event that can sell 50k tickets in an arena that only holds 18k? I believe the Regionals and Final Fours will always try to be in large stadiums to maximize tickets.
Re: Vikings Stadium
Since 2003, the minimum capacity for a Final Four venue is 40,000. So no arenas.

The idea has come up. 20,000 good seats is better than 10,000 good seats and 40,000 marginal seats. Plus, surprisingly wind or air movement plays a factor in large stadiums.Since 2003, the minimum capacity for a Final Four venue is 40,000. So no arenas.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Um, the stadium we are building won't be able to EVER house more than 75,000 people, after an addition. The current design is to fit 60,000. 60,000 is pittance compared to the size of European soccer stadiums.....I think THIS would be closer to the "initimate" size they may be looking for (according to you).i love soccer too but enthusiasts have been saying for 30 years that in time it will become extremely popular. in the U.S. it's a niche sport at the professional level, like hockey. nothing wrong with that.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Interesting. But it's about money, obviously. It seems like they are considering the move to hit the larger markets. It doesn't mean they'd choose target center over a new vikings stadium. The idea has come up. 20,000 good seats is better than 10,000 good seats and 40,000 marginal seats. Re: Vikings Stadium
Mullen's got a point. Moreover, any major Futbol league in Europe is filled with sub 40,000 venues. Most UEFA fans know the following:Um, the stadium we are building won't be able to EVER house more than 75,000 people, after an addition.
