Xcel Energy HQ - 401 Nicollet
Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
I have almost zero respect for my elected officials. There are pot holes on every street and downed trees throughout the city and these morons think the the city can afford to run utilities. There will be major repercussions if this happens.
Even if this doesn't happen, Xcel should move its headquarters anyway - simply because MPLS officials considered this. Xcel has a brand new building in downtown Denver that serves as a secondary headquarters so I wouldn't be surprised if/whenMP they make the move official.

St. Paul would take it.
Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
I agree with other's comments. I am less concerned about a new building as I am sure that lot will be quickly gobbled up by another developer. More saddened by the possible loss of jobs downtown.
Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
Xcel's employees are about 1.5% of all downtown jobs. Nothing to sniff at, but also the amount of fluctuation that naturally occurs over the 5 year time range. Certainly there will be twice that number of people moving downtown as a result of the buildings that are under construction right now.

I have some respect for the Mayor. But the city council I have no respect left for them. IT is all of their own doing!
Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
So is this project now focused on the old Neiman Marcus site? It sounds like that is where they are adding office space. Am I confused - does this leave the north west corner of the block with no plans? If anyone can clarify this that would be great. IF that space is now open you'd think that there might be some benefit to the Marq 4 project - not that the other developer is in a hurry to give up anything to the competition.
Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
Xcel's headquarters is still going to go up directly across Nicollet from the current building, where the ramp is now. Centerpoint Energy, the natural gas provider for the city, is moving their offices to the Neiman Marcus space.

I would like to officially declare that we're going to do an UrbanMSP tailgate in the lot across the street when the Nicollet and 4th ramp is demolished.

Can't wait! I'll bring a bottle of champagne.

I was amazed how far back the Nic 5 tower will sit away from the Xcel tower. I thought they would be much closer,

Nice renderings of the new Xcel office building on the Opus website. Scheduled for completion in July 2016:

I like the tree 'awning' on Nicollet. The images still look a little cartoonish to me though.
