They could develop the Hennepin facing part of the back lot into a new venue while preserving the old building as a museum. The space is roughly the size of the current building, and if 7th St. and the Depot Tavern stayed put, it would allow for a larger space for the mainstage. If it ever did close, it'd be the perfect spot for the Minnesota Music History Museum

Has anyone seen video ads on the sides of buildings before?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Banana Joe's (15 S 5th St) used to have a green laser light ad on the Hennepin Ave side back in the early aughts. In fact, I think the projection stanchion is still up in the lot.

I'd rather see that than an actual billboard on the side of the building.Has anyone seen video ads on the sides of buildings before?

Really great b&w images of downtown Minneapolis in 1960, and their contemporary counterparts, at the Star Tribune:

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Shea has posted images of the renovation to 110 Washington in its lobby. My friend send them to me, sorry they aren't great.
I'm happy to see they envision this being a super transparent space! Looks better than I thought it would. I think it's adding some retail and really makes the skyway connection way more obvious. (The old connection is nearly impossible to find)

Cool pics. I wish that old post office was still standing.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
You're kidding, you don't think 55 years of surface parking lot is an improvement? Jeez, if I didn't know better I'd believe you think some those buildings they tore down were downright gorgeous... oh wait they were. And you're right. It's pictures like these that make me want to cry, such a waste.Yep, few improvements there. IDS exception. egh.

501 Washington Ave S. sells for 6.1m. I'd soon expect a redevelopment plan at that price. http://finance-commerce.com/2016/02/inv ... -building/

Locked article. Does the sale include the parking lot?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
It's a quarter of the block, but unfortunately not the parts that are mostly parking.

But it includes a corner parking lot, which is pretty important to redevelop.

It won't be long before the rest of these lots are purchased for redevelopment. These surface lots are in the heart of the Mill/DTE stretch now - and are certainly far more valuable than a few short years ago.

Here's what the ownership picture on this block looks like. 501 Washington is in blue.

Their portfolio is full of strip malls and suburban development. I'm no longer optimistic.

Wonder what it would take to integrate a Fire Station into a larger redevelopment? They may not be the best neighbor, but they probably pay their rent on time.

I forget where--I'm pretty sure it came from someone close with the fire department--but I heard that the City may be looking to do something with that fire station development-wise.

I've heard the same thing - isn't that the oldest fire station still in use as such in Minneapolis?
Regarding the 501 sale - I don't expect anything to change on that parcel. It's basically an urban strip mall with chain tenants and free parking. Seems to fit the mold for the company that purchased it. Could be better, but could be worse. I do think we'll see the rest of that block get developed sometime soon.
