Does anyone know if that building is considered historic or not. I know that there are structural issues, that is the reason that NC moved out. It is too cost prohibitive to fix. With the Orpheum's loading docks where they are can they actually build anything new there that would be able to be done profitably if they have to tear it down? Can the parking lot next to it be used to build on?

This tidbit is from a credible source, but I didn't want to start a new topic just yet: Sherman is planning residential building with a Pinstripes at 240 Park Ave S.

Interesting... If true, glad to see the Pinstripes isn't giving up. They think they can make it work and want to be in/near the Mill District/Stadium.

Interesting. That's one of the three parcels int he neighborhood owned by the Wilfs. Hopefully they move on the rest of their land soon too. It's odd that Sherman is the developer though.

Does anyone know why the lot next to skyscape is fenced in with trailers and stuff? Is it just for the road work?

I suspect it is a site-office for the HCMC expansion. Actually I think I remember a sign saying that on 10th st entrance to the lot.

North Star Blankets sign is reinstalled and relit. It looks great.

All that's left now is the Grain Belt sign.

The Mill District seems to be teaming with life. Besides the Encore that is now visible out of the ground. The apartments on 2nd and 3rd have reached 4 levels of stick with one more to go. They still have another portion of the building to do, not sure why it is being built the way it is. The senior housing next door had precast columns out of the ground on the 5th ave side,as well as a block wall starting to face 2nd. They look like they are still digging basement levels to the western portion of that building. So it looks like both those buildings are being done in sectioned phases. Across the street they have got part of the skeleton for the additional floor to the Renaissance Hotel underway. While other areas are waiting for project to get started, the Mill district is buzzing with activity.

Too bad they don't light up the painted sign on the monster south side wall of the Ceresota Building. A lot of darkness there at night.

Oh and the green roof on the Minneapolis City Hall.

Does anybody know the provenance of that green roof on City Hall? It's always struck me as weird and out of place.

That's just the patina that forms on weathered copper, isn't it? Like the Statue of Liberty.

Yep. The roof was originally red tile.

Maybe it really is copper (and wikipedia says it is), but it looks too consistent to me (real copper tends to look more mottled and streaky, and the only streaks on this roof are rust-colored).

In any case, I think it looked better with its original terra cotta roof.

The St Paul Cathedral looked the same way until the big restoration a few years ago.

Seems like other areas of town are slow or at a stand still, the Mill District is on a roll. Besides Encore that is now peaking out of the ground, The apartments on the corner of 2nd and 3rd is now up to 4 stories of stick with one level left to go. The senior housing next door has a few precast section out of the ground along the 5th Ave side, with the start of a brick wall along 2nd street. Both building seem to being done in phases, as there are still sections to be finished with the apartments and they are still digging part of the parking level of the senior complex while they are building on the opposite end.
Across the street the Renaissance Hotel has some of their added floor structure in place. They have a lot to do, bu you can see that they are working to get this addition done. The Mill District is buzzing with activity.

It is. Added in the 1950s over the original red tile roof. Too many broken tiles or something.
