Is anyone else disappointed in the material they chose for the crown of the building?

It looks like bleak, grey plastic.

I wish they would have chosen something reflective.

this building presents such a beautiful profile on the skyline. this huge piece of tapered cut glass. it's especially impressive from the 35w bridge. what an incredible skyline we have. and the way it meets the henn/washington intersection. building looks better than the renderings!

I agree it does look better than the drawings I had seen.

Heard the United Properties VP of hospitality speak recently - sounds like the office portion is on track to open in February, and the hotel in June. Even with Covid, the construction timeline hasn't wavered more than a couple weeks.

The glass on this building is really easy on the eyes. This tower has the tendency to really fade into the sky a bit, almost as if it's partially transparent. It's extremely visible from many angles around the city, but (in contrast to Eleven) rarely ever leaps out at you. Maybe that wasn't what the city envisioned when they asked for an "iconic" design, but I think this is turning out quite well.

It's been quite a while since we've had a true Class-A tower go up downtown, and the improvements in glass technology over that time really show in this new tower. It looks so sharp and true.

The apartment building on the left in the foreground, meanwhile... that siding isn't aging well at all.

I forgot all about we started everything with a quest to find something iconic! …and we ended up with something that’s…”hmm that’s nice, I like”

I propose we demand the requirements that next building to be “stunning” then the next be “breathtaking” then another “iconic” then a “flawless” one and then we shoot our shot and just demand a “moon-scraper” 🤷‍♂️ I’m not sure what that is myself but by the time they water them down we might have a decently nice skyline.

Me too! A few months ago there were some lights going occasionally but it was only part of the crown and honestly pretty boring. Hopefully the final lighting is much more elaborate. Here is a short video of what it looked like then: https://youtu.be/-md9Po0cmHs

This building is very prominent when driving in to downtown on Highway 55. I'm liking it more and more every time I see it. What I like best is how the three pieces are brought together so smoothly, compared to the total mess called Centre Village. Could it be taller? Yes, of course, but I think we got a wonderful addition to our skyline.

Would love to see this view at sunset! I bet it reflects in a really cool way!

It is rather bland. A wall of windows. Nothing imaginative. Oh lights. How pretty. Go to Vegas. Nope this rates right down there with 30 S. 6th St. (Multifoods). It doesn't even have that height. I sure hope the pedestrian aspect is great but I don't think it will be. I know 2 sides will have nothing. The Hennepin side is for cars. So that leaves ??

It's not the most amazing thing ever but I think the tower is better executed than the lower levels. As others mentioned I think the glass on the tower looks nicer than older curtain wall type structures. The mechanical penthouse is kinda meh. The details on the lower levels look chintzy and plasticky. The plaza works, it will be very nice when the trees are mature. I think it could have been a knockout if the parts meeting the street were executed better.

It's good enough, I guess. Certainly nicer than Xcel's new building, N365, etc. I wish Minneapolis would aim higher architecturally in general, but I'll save my excitement for North Loop Green.
