Agreed, interestingly could that have something to do with its smaller size, besides the developers and architects actually making it unique.

^^^Julie Snow is a good architect who understands scale and proportion. The developers are enlightened enough to want to contribute something positive to the community, and understand that will actually make their project more appealing and profitable. They "get it".

Yes because this is what in my opinion causes a variety of buildings on a block which gives a cool look. Instead of one building taking up half a block and another the other half, there are three-four buildings in a block, giving it a nice feel.

I've had an inkling from the beginning it would be awesome. Too bad its next to and across the street from parking ramps, and kiddy corner from a suburban style office parkish thing... It would be so awesome to see all those redevelop at some point, creating a more modern western end of Washington.

The most encouraging thing about this development - developers sacrificed rentable square footage to get a unique design. Two story retail space, ground level amenity carved out of the streetscape and a story less than code will allow within the building type. Credit and respect to the developer for caring about architecture.

Excellent point. The walkway through and under the building is an attractive differentiator that they deserve credit for.

Cheers.

Also, I don't know if anyone saw this article over at streets.mn but this article also rightly holds developers accountable for the outcome of a building. Architects have the material palette that we have because of budget and we have the massing (the "boxes" that most people seem to hate) because of budget. As soon as you carve into that box, you are losing rentable area. As you can guess, reducing rentable area is not desirable from the point of view of most developers.
