Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Reminds me of the sea castle in The Little Mermaid!
My understanding is that we've still only just begun to see this anticipated slew of new tower proposals for downtown, as indicated by posters such as Avian and RetiredBanker. There was talk of at least one large hotel project (tower), a condo building, and perhaps a mixed-use building. Prior to the upgrade by Ryan, the building over the parking ramp wasn't intended on being a mixed-use project, and I'm not sure anyone really knew about the details of those projects when this stuff was originally prognosticated (3-4 months ago).

What are your guys' thoughts on consolidating downtown Minneapolis into one supertall building?
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
big cities are full of these types of residential towers. just stands out here because we don't have a lot of high-rise residential. it's not earch shattering design, no. it's perfectly fine building, imo.

Despite the never to be resolved controversy about the tower component, I think most everyone can agree the street level is very good Here's a fun image of the street level along 5th Street. From the looks of it there is going to be a fair amount of retail. This will be great considering what a dead zone this was for decades.

The controversy? The fact that it got shrunk 6 floors, or was the tower in support of the Vietnam War?Despite the never to be resolved controversy about the tower component,

does anyone else find it strange that the crown is only on 2 sides, and faces away from the riverfront?
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
I am sure those occupying the top floors of 4Marq will be VERY happy the crown isnt on those other two sides. They would feel like Kramer when Kenny Rogers Roasters moved in across the street. The need for a crown on those sides is minimalized due to a higher building on that side.

Ha! Instead they'll have a view of rooftop chillers? I think it's weird, there will still be significant air space between the two buildings.... Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
There will be air space, but as people in St. Paul's residential towers like to have lit signs and light blazing at their window l at night is a different story. The back side eventually will be buried by future development to the North. Save the money for other uses at street level.

Why can't I add images? "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

We no longer allow attachments. Use the [img] tags. You have to host the images yourself (using Flikr, PhotoBucket, Picasa, etc)

It actually looks better than I thought it would from this side, and the 5th side...the glass helps.
